This market is all about the local catch so be prepared to see (and smell) a lot of squid. Was there on a Sunday morning so there was a big happy weekend crowd. Stallholders were happy to let me take pictures of various interesting and still squirming produce. Local colour. Combine with a walk on the headland or boat trip... More

We visited on a rainy morning and arrived at a deserted market. Not sure if stores and sellers decided to pull out because of the rain, but hardly any stores were open. Of the few that were open, they were selling a variety of seafood and fresh produce. We bought some clementines for the journey and those were sweet. Squid... More

This place is worth the drive! - Highly recommend to get there by 9am to enjoy the street lined with morning makeshift stalls. Quite an interesting experience. A must try is the octopus balls and freshly opened Uni saahimi at Yen400 and you can literally taste the freshness of the sea...we then left the place and drove to a seaside... More

The harbour is magical with fisher men's boats lined up bobbing about. We saw men sitting repairing nets. The market is full of squid and fish. Little English spoken but people were so delightfully friendly and offered these tastings. One lady's stall had succulent oily mackerel - gosh if I could have bought some but we'd had an enormous Japanese... More

The morning market in Yobuko is very famous as one of the biggest three markets in Japan. It opens every morning from 8am to noon. However half of stalls close around 10.30am. you should come to the market in early morning, if you want to see many stalls on a alley. Stalls sell fish products which were produced around this... Squid is huge there, you can find it in both dried and fresh forms. There are stalls that sell fresh seafood, like sea urchins, oysters. We tried the oyster as the shop have a self-service grilling station. I was expecting a more lively, jam-packed market. I'm not sure if most of the sellers went home already since we got there... I went by local bus. From the karatsu bus station, took the local bus then reached Yobuko. The fresh squid was fantastic. The price a little bit high. I had lunch at IKAHONKE restaurant, the course including base meal plus one Squid. I spent around 2500JPY.:)
