Food is superb

Walking the Kumamo with friends and we stayed here the first night. The accommodations are basic, but more than adequate. The service is great and the food was very good.

Beautifully located ryokan with breath taking views from each of the 8 rooms. Some have beds as opposed to futons and thankfully western toilets (which is not so common in ryokans on the Kii Peninsula). The food was magnificent; Mori-San is a skilled Japanese chef. The friendly Jian speaks excellent English and noticed our 11yo struggled with some Japanese dishes.... More

We based ourselves here which seems to have put us in the minority; most stay on way past KK and then move on which is such a shame. This place really gives you a different way of seeing rural Japan. Our room has a great view and in traditional way is a room by day before taking our sleeping mats... More

The title says it all. This guesthouse was outstanding - full of charm, excellent hospitality, amazing food, and a great view across the mountains. We were travelling as a group of families with 10 children altogether, and could not fault this place. The children were fully entertained by the proprietor who went out of his way to make the children... More

We stopped here for the first night of our Kumano Kodo hike, and what a wonderful surprise. After stays in Tokyo and Osaka, this is where we had our best vegetarian meal (with some fish broth). The food was incredibly flavourful and inventive. The fresh mountain vegetables were a delight, and dishes like hot custard with fresh mushrooms were a... More

This place is exceptional in its location, food and service. Each room has wonderful views of the mountains and the small mountain village. A small private verandah is perfect. the food is a real highlight - I really had the sense of eating fresh forest pickings that were absolutely delicious. The famous friendly and amazing Japanese customer service was provided... More
