Burn down an entire forest, Kill all wildlife (birds frogs deer monkeys rodents), call it a beautiful park, sell it as a tour bus stop to see limestone rocks. This is scorched earth. Go figure. Never in a million years would I ever expect to see a beautiful forest removed Just so bus loads of people can snap photos of... More

A wonderful view of a large karst plateau, but because it's a plateau, if you're not so interested in topography, just passing through there by car may satisfy you. It seems hard to find a nice shade of a tree, I recommend to go there in Spring or in Fall.

If you're done with the cave and need something else to do, have a walk around the area and check out the karst formations. It was nice but I've seen more spectacular views elsewhere in Japan. I do think I saw a bear in the distance though!

Interesting place to hike around. I probably wasn't supposed to, but I took my bicycle out and nobody stopped me. Granted, I didn't see any signs saying I couldn't do that either.

Huge and amazing karst landscape in this area. There are actually hiking trails all the way across the landscape but be prepared to spend a few hours since the area is pretty big. Feels nice and quiet in the middle of the plateau, which also offers a stunning view.

Free of charge, but 20min (by car) away from nearest train station (Mine Station). Either go by car or by bus. Bus schedule and fares can be found here: http://english.karusuto.com/html/access/ The observatory gives a beautiful view of the Akiyoshidai. The mountain range seems to go on and on. And depending on the time of year, it will have a different... More

If you are going to the caves take some time to go up top to the observatory and look over the Karst Landscape. Very dramatic and affecting
