The discovery of oil is what put Brunei on the map. This monument is a commemoration of the one billionth barrel of oil discovered. It's a very quick pit stop if you're on the way but I wouldn't go out of my way to visit it.

This is an interesting monument but looking very tired. Great views along the beach. More interpretation would be good for some background to the oil industry. Would have thought Shell Brunei could afford a bit of maintenance and upgrading!

It's a monument, that's it, full stop. Nothing exciting or interesting about it, and no explanations on plaques nearby. Swing by if you're passing but don't bother to stop.

Well worth a visit.

About an hours drive from Bandar_Ser i_Begawan. Lots to see on route. Take the coast route.

A great monument and an historic place to visit. There is a car park nearby. There are no food stalls next to it however Seria town is only a stone throw away.

Since I work with an oil industry company I really didn't want to miss the opportunity to visit this place when I went to Brunei. This has a lot of history to tell and also a very fancy place to visit. Its near the shore so you'll hear and feel the sea breeze.
Also, there are nodding donkeys around of which some are still working some are not (working but not really in use anymore)
The nodding donkeys are the equipments used before to get the oil from underground.

Whenever you go to Brunei, try to visit this place they are interesting.

It is a monument to commemorate the production of billion barrels of oil in Brunei. Being a country with most of the revenue being generated from oil, it is something which people may relate to.
However, it doesn't look like it is being maintained well. Some of the hangings missing, graffiti, litter lying around the complex - all of these suggest neglect.

If you're there for the sunset, it's probably worth a trip. I was not, and so, my experience was one where I would have rather found something else - something closer to where I was - to see.

The view is breathtaking especially just before sunset. A monument to atone Brunei Shell 100th million barrel. It's free and kids love the space to run. You can observe a working nodding donkey nearby on its mechanism, never fails to impress 1st time visitor.

Beach is deserted. Apply baby oil to minimise sand bites.
