The good: - the facilities - the staff is very nice - the exhibition center - the caves The very bad: - upon arrival we were informed a group was arriving and depending on the size of the group we could come or we'd have to wait 30 mn, that's ok, but the group arrived and we were told we... More

Nice caves. The visit is very short and temperature not so cold. The guide speaks both in Portuguese and English, very usefull if you want to understand something! After the visit, you finish in the museum. 1 or 2 min in the exhibition, then you are invited to watch two films. The first one talks about the formation of the... More

The caves were fascinating, it was slightly wet when we were in there and water was dripping down, so it would be worth packing a waterproof or jumper. There were people in there with flip flops on, but they did get wet, cold feet. The museum was a really rerun of the worst geography trip I have ever been on,... More

The caves are gorgeous and it's interesting to see and hear about how Madeira was formed from volcanic activity. There were a lot of things included we hadn't expected after the cave tour, volcano museum, a short informative movie, a 3d movie... all of the latter was unnecessary but the caves were one of the coolest things on Madeira.

We reached this town in the North West of the island and were rewarded with some fabulous views of the Atlantic coast. Well worth the time spent getting there. See photos…

We were traveling through this area and thought it would be fun to go through the cave. The whole experience took 1 hour. It was 30 minutes in the cave doing a guided tour (done in English and Portuguese) and then 30 minutes going through exhibits and watching a short 3-D film. Very educational. Not a must see in my... Just outside (southwards) of Sao Vicente, the caves were fairly well signposted coming from the Funchal direction. However, you do have to make sure you are on the correct side of the river (eastside). There is a free car park, and then you walk under the road & over the river to reach the site (only about 2 minutes) .... More

The 41 person tour I was on (that's €8 x 41 = €328 every 1/2 hour) wasn't very informative and needless to say impersonal. The entire cave is a single file partly pebble-edged concrete path lit by many lights. For your money you'll be able to see tiny plants and moss (neither should be there) growing on, over and near...
