For me, the reason to go to Chatan is to scuba dive (see my review of Okinawa 39ers). The seaside is beautiful, sunsets fantastic, and I loved where we stayed (highly recommend Beach Tower Mihana). But the beach water for swimming is so warm it...More
AV, as we in Okinawa call American Village for short, is the hub of the Chatan area. It sits in a very central area between 2 large US military installations right on the waterfront. It has tons of restaurants, shopping, arcades, bowling, go-carton, etc so...More
The town is pretty catered towards tourism but don't let that put you off! It has good shops and restaurants as well as a convenient spot to watch the sunset.
