Bridge archtecture at its best

If you know nothing of canals then the Llangollen branch of the Shropshire Union Canal is a good place to start for both aqueducts and locks

Early in the morning there is a lovely peaceful atmosphere here. The aqueduct is impressive and well worth a look both for the views and the novelty value of walking over an aqueduct if you haven't before. The walk further along the canal is also very pleasant to stretch your visit out a little longer.

The walk along the canal is lovely. Not too far from the aquaduct is the poachers where you can get standard pun grub in a warm friendly environment. All in all a nice easy walk with the kids full of charm. Sign postage is a little sketchy though we're almost missed it

Not that far from Pontycysllte is Chirk and adjacent the Chirk Tunnel. You could walk through as it is only 421 metres long. The Aquesduct is just a little longer than the tunnel by 40 yds or so. The views again are terrific and the competing railway viaduct stands alongside and a little taller!

This is something that we had been wanting to do for a while. Whilst obviously not quite up to the standard of Pontcysyllte Aqueduct it ought to be on your do do list if visiting the area. The one advantage it has is that if you are lucky you can be there whilst the more modern adjacent viaduct has a... More

Went 6th October 2016 and really loved walking across this aqueduct after walking through the tunnel. Would recommend that visit if you are in the area as its a superb piece of engineering.

Went up here as we had seen it in the local things to do magazine. We really liked it...its about 70 metres high and you can walk along and watch the canal boats go by. We also walked through the tunnel which was ok but really dark...make sure you have a torch as the path is narrow and open to... More

Parked close by for view from the top and walk along aqueduct. Then travelled down the road for view from field below aqueduct.

We did this on a busy barge wise, (not pedestrian! ) Sunday afternoon. It was a lovely walk, and we enjoyed seeing so many barges coming through the tunnel (which you can walk through...bring a torch as it's about 450 yards long. The autumn colours were great too! Definitely do if in the area.
