Imotski's Red Lake is a testament to nature's capacity to amaze and inspire. Its vibrant hue and the tranquility it bestows upon its visitors make it an undeniable gem waiting to be discovered. For those in search of a place where time seems to stand still and the wonders of the Earth take center stage, the Red Lake is an experience that will etch itself into memory.

As I understand this is the third biggest sinkhole in the world, with 230 meter from the rim to the lake surface, the lake being approx 300 meter deep. Up close it appears hugely impressive, and you can only imagine how it must have looked & felt when it was created, apparently with the collapse of the roof of an underground limestone cavern. Makes a nice stop on the way e.g. from Split to Mostar, or as a detour on the way along the coast. Close by is the somewhat smaller Blue Lake of similar origin, where you can also go down to the water.

After seeing the blue lake, it would be a shame not to go and satisfy your curiosity at the red lake. There is nothing to do around but it is worth the detour to see this natural place.

This lake is geographic phenomena. It's really well known (at least in this part of the world) and worth seeing because of its structure! It's not typical lake and you won't be able to go down to the water. In fact, it is impossible to even throw a rock in that lake but it's magnificent!

Nice nature, you can't get down there but have the option to walk around it from the top.
After visiting the blue lake the red lake seams fairly simuler in my opinion. But it's beautiful and worth a visit, but will recommend to visit the blue lake at the same time (the lakes is 1,5 km apart)

Though we had ticket (as a combined ticket with blue lake), we decided to drive here rather than walk using the paths. The Red lake is easy to access from road side without tickets, as you cannot climb down anyway.
I find it really interesting that a cave suddenly can collapse and create these sinkholes.

Red lake is about 1,5 km ahead road from Blue lake just by the road. There is a small broadening on the road to park few cars. You can see the lake from the road. It's more impressive than Blue with red rock walls around a lake. Basicly you can just watch it and try to throw stones to lake. They never reach water they say.

There is a rough path around the lake through cliffs and forest. It really needs effort to push that through. We didn't take it, just watched views from edge of cliffs. There are no rails and soil looks brittle so you have to watch your foot steps and kids not to go near the cliff.

There is also green lake somewhere in the forest between blue and red lake but we didn't search it.

Red Lake is a sinkhole, reaching over 241 metres above normal water level and continuing below the water level. It is free to see, near the road in Imotski town and very interesting.

Small track road to the car park then rough path to the edge. Beautiful lake in a red bowl. No facilities on site however. Its not walkable from the blue lake.

You can only view the red lake from above. There are only a few parking spots available next to the road, but the view worth the wait.
