I will not talk about the history and importance of the monastery because much has been said in other comments. I want to mention what you can visit near the monastery.
At the monastery, cross the bridge over the river Raca and follow the path going upstream. After a two-kilometer walk along the river, mostly through the deep forest, you will reach Ladjevac waterfall above which is the spring of the same name. From the spring uphill begins the narrow and steep canyon of the river Raca with numerous waterfalls. It is very difficult to walk and do not go there alone because the possibility of meeting a bear is very high. Near the spring are the remains of St. George's Scythian where a transcript workshop of the Raca Monastery was hidden. Not far from this place is the Beech Gate, two beech trees that grow a meter and a half in parallel, and then one tree abruptly turns and merges with the other, growing further as one.
There is a signpost on the main path that directs you a hundred meters uphill to St. George's Scythian. From there you should continue uphill and take the overgrown path to the left that takes you another 200 meters to the Beech Gate.
I hope you find this comment helpful. If you need any help with this or any other attraction in Serbia (location information, transport, guide, arranging a private tour, etc.), please feel free to contact me because I do tours all over Serbia.
Enjoy Serbia!

During our holiday at Tara, we have visited the Rača monastery which is an orthodox monastery 7 km south of Bajina Bašta and one of the most visited sites in Tara National Park.
The first mention of the monastery that can be found officially is from 1516 but according to Serbian tradition, the monastery was founded by the Serbian King Dragutin who was a monarch from 1276 to 1316. The monastery is historically best known by the monks who translated texts from Ancient Greek, wrote histories, and copied manuscripts. The most famous scriptorium was therefor in Rača and it became known as the School of Rača. The Turkish travel writer known as Evliya Çelebi noted in 1630 that in Rača Monastery there were 300 monk scribes, who were served by 400 shepherds, blacksmiths, and other staff and that the security guard included 200 armed men. Historically Rača is one of the most important monasteries of Serbia.
The monastery has been burned down several times when Serbia was under the rule of the Ottoman Empire, the most important destruction was in 1689 during the Great Turkish Was. In 1826 it was reconstructed.

If you are visiting Bajina Bašta or the Tara mountain, I would recommend visiting the Rača monastery.
The monastery is old, originally from the 13th century, and today's church building is said to be erected in 1826. It is worth visiting, due to the beauty of the building. They also sell great klekovača brandy there.
Apart from visiting the monastery, you must also visit a nearby Lađevac spring. There is a pathway from the monastery to the spring, the walk through the wood is not hard and is very pleasant. The spring itself is an attraction because it's like a small hill with numerous small waterfalls, and the temperature throughout the year is around 15 degrees C, so in summer it is refreshing, and in winter you can enjoy a misty scenery. Very nice!

Hidden in the forest by a stream, keeps memory of priest Hadzi Melentije, leader of liberation fight against Turkish occupation, who reconstructed this monastery. In this place the oldest Serbian manuscript Gospel of Miroslav from 12th century was hidden during Second World War, and thus was preserved from Nazi cultural genocide.

I went to Monastery Rača by bike. It takes around 7 kilometers from Bajina Bašta to get to the Monastery. This medieval monastery is situated at the base of Tara mountain, next to Rača river. In the monastery church you can see wonderful icons and in the gallery many interesting manuscripts and historical artifacts. Also, there is a gift/souvenir shop that offers a wide selection of natural products, small icons and prayer ropes. The monastery garden is filled with beautiful flowers and plants. The beauty of the surrounding nature and the deep silence you can experience there truly makes this monastery a worth place to visit!

I last took a visit a few years back and wanted to return to see this off-the-beaten path holy site once again. In the years since I was there, the monastery has had additions around it, but the church and the interior are still spectacular! Inside the sacred temple one will see a different style of icons covering the walls from floor to the top of the ceiling and the Panocrater of Christ. These icons are coated with years of soot and that gives them life and a patina that makes a visit so special and so spiritual.

Beautiful monastery, surrounded by nature, suggestive. Like all monasteries in Serbia there is peace and quiet, attached a small shop selling objects, honey and products made by monks. Recommendation to visit it
