- Captain HookGrimsby, United Kingdom422 contributionsMore than just cavesCaves are caves and though the set up is very modern and well set up, if you have been to caves elsewhere in the world and seen the usual stalactites and stalagmites there is nothing new here. BUT What you are not told about when you book are the real stars of the show. The Iguanas. You see the pen before the caves and it is a fantastic surprise as there are hundreds of them. Not just that but as you continue along the path there are loads of Iguanas along the path. It is an unexpected bonus which made our day.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten December 19, 2023
- WanderlustGitaState College, Pennsylvania147 contributionsCave of wonders:)The caves are in a well maintained park. Entrance fee is 300 DR, well worth it. Our guide was friendly, and fairly informative, though I would have liked more information about the Taino people and how they use the cave. There are a lot of steps, and sometimes it was difficult to see because the lights kept shutting off, so not for someone with mobility issues. The caves themselves were very interesting , sometimes beautiful, and the Taino pictographs made it unique. The system is very large, so there was a lot more that you couldn’t see. On the way out you also get to see rhinoceros iguanas, which are an endangered species native to Hispaniola, so that was definitely cool.Visited January 2024Travelled with familyWritten January 10, 2024
- Alasdair PMelbourn, United Kingdom48 contributionsAmazing geological formations. Before we got to the caves we got to admire a few of the hundreds of iguanas living locally. We were visiting off season so it was very quiet. Caves are amazing with one pictogram in particular sticking in my mind. So glad we drove to see them. If you have a hire car do not book a tour. just rock up and pay to view. They’ve done a really good job of lighting them as well as making sure the path is well lit for even the unsteadiest feet to see their way. A few steps so not for people with significant mobility issues.Visited September 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten September 10, 2024

We were looking for something to do in our La Romana cruise port and decided on the caves. Went out of the terminals to get a taxi. We teamed up with a group of 3 others and got a driver that spoke English (but can't remember his name) to drive the 5 of us to the caves. He waited while we did the tour and drove us all back for $20 each.
It costs $10 each for the tour and we were inside for probably close to an hour. It's one of the largest volume caves I've been in. Nice concrete trails thoughout it with hand rails.
Then we got to see the iguanas which are specific to that area.
A great way to spend a couple of hours

This place sits on the main highway near La Romana. I was looking for something new to do. The cost of admission is 300 pesos per adult. You get a “guided tour”, in Spanish, and entry to the cave as well as a iguana habitat.
The cave itself was interésting but caution, there are many steps. The cave drawings were also interesting but looked like the took my kindergarten wall drawings as a tracer -LOL.

Underground cave system 800m long and 25m deep houses hundreds of preserved Taino pictographs and petroglyphs dating back thousands of years. Access is with a guide who was very informative and knowledgeable. Besides the rock art there are stalactites and stalagmites, which earned the site the name, “Cave of Wonders.” At the Water Mirror Gallery the roof of the cave and the Great Panel can be seen in the reflection of an artificial lake. The Great Panel features a cave painting that show a Taíno funeral ritual. Inside and outside you will see a variety of native flora, some of it unique to this area. Don’t forget to check out the iguana sanctuary where I Iost count at 70 specimens…

We were on the way between Las Terrenas and Bayahibe, looking for things to do during the trip, I found these caves, which honestly lack more dissemination, it was very difficult to find information about them. Coming from Samaná we arrived just for the last tour (which in the end was not the last) the place is very well maintained and restored, the cave is a very nice place to explore, the guide tells you the history of the Tainos, which makes more The visit is bearable, it is a quick visit of no more than 45 minutes, there are also the iguanas that are a spectacle apart. It's very worth it. Good bathrooms, nice place to buy snacks, so it's also a good stop on the route…
Next to the Wonderful Cave, there is a labyrinth that has a separate cost, luckily we had time to go to the labyrinth before going to the cave, we are two adults and two children and we had a great time, trying to reach the palm tree and Go back to the starting point, it is very worth it, the kids really enjoyed the labyrinth, with a lot of excitement…

Lots of steps to get into cave and the same again for exit, so if you have issues with motability this could be an issue for you.
The tour guide we had was not very informative at all. Just rally walked away from the party.
Be careful when entering to start and exit as very dark and there is steps etc as you will not see them at all.

We visited the caves with the family.
The caves themselves are nice, with ancient paintings.
But they are not outstanding. We saw many more beautiful ones in Europe.
I was also put off by the concrete lighted paths; "over-built" to my taste.

My wife and I were part of an Explore La Romana tour excursion bus tour. Our first stop was the Cave of Wonders. Upon our arrival, our guide led us to the cave, giving us plenty of info along the way. The cave was wonderful! Far better than what I was expecting. We had a decent amount of time in the cave. Upon exiting the cave you pass by an area with many Iguanas. Pretty cool for us. There is a restroom on site. I thought the cave tour was well worth the time and money.

throughly enjoyed seeing the history for the dominicans and the park /jungle area. the cave is a definite must see, goes down about 150 feet, and they have areas to show you, they turn off the lights but its really cool to see the history. tour guide was great. they have an iguana park as well. takes maybe 90 minutes all in.

Espero poder haberte ayudado.
