The platform with the toppled Moai is interesting but sad seeing the results of the native civil wars. Be sure to check out the ruins of the native block dwellings to see how these people lived.

At the end of Rapa Nui history, all Moias were put down during the sanguinary conflicts between villages and those we saw standing on the platforms nowadays have been restored. Ahu Vaihu is one of the many unrestores site, in my opinion the most beautiful. First of all, the position: marvelous! It’s surrounded by a bucolic nature as all Easter... More

Spectacular Moai! What an amazing experience to see the Moai in person after learning about them in school 40 years ago.

It is well worth visiting all the sites on Rapa Nui, it helps give an overall impression of the huge amount of work that went into carving these statues and moving them to the sites for erection from the quarries. The whole place is littered with statues that got broken on the way.

This is a very peaceful island, the only Moai standing today have been re-erected either after being toppled by wars or tsunami. Our guide was Elena, a local born and bread lady who knows everything about the island. She will take you to places on the island you didn't know existed. If you are thinking of going to South America,... More

We ended up stopping at Ahu Vaihu for a few minutes and glad we did. The Moai have not all been restored but that look shows the wear and tear the ocean and earthquake had on this place. Beautiful views of the ocean as well as a nice fresh breeze. The Moai standing with the stray dog guarding it is... More

A lot of people have commented that these Moai haven't been restored, which is true. However they are still inspiring and wonderful. For me, seeing a row of face down Moai, was very heart wrenching. Equally though it does make you appreciate those statues which have been restored even more. Worth seeing and worth having a guide explain why they... More

Another place to see the way the island looked when the first westerners came here and before the restorations.

Other sites have better Moai views but the ocean views are very dramatic. I would spend my time at other locations.

Taking ones time to drive along the coastal roads is well worth the trip. The beauty of the ragged caostline with crashing waves under the azure blue skies is breathtaking. When looking south off the coast, it is hard to imagine that the next piece of land is Antartica.
