My Husband and I spent 3 nights at Mugie last month and are still reminiscing on a regular basis! What a wonderful stay we had, from the welcome we had from the family and staff , all the way through until we departed!
The situation of this beautiful lodge, sitting on an escarpment with game grazing below is unsurpassed? The enormous rooms are beautifully furnished each with a fireplace and picture window bathroom, the views taking in the vastness of the plateau are breathtaking! Our meals were taken at different venues, by the pool, on the verandah or in the lovely dining room and all prepared to perfection!
Our game drives delivered in spades every time from the 20 strong lion pride we spent time observing to the giraffes to the bat eared fox families, it was all so personal and informative!
This beautiful place is well worth a visit!!

Located in Samburu County, Kenya, close to the sleepy town of Maralal. This is a private conservancy where a traveler can see all the big fives and other game. Maralal Camel derby is help close to this place every September. Rich in the ranch is Mutamahiyu Lodge, real luxury in the bush. Highly recommended for those who want a private time away in the wilderness, a real adventure.

If you are ever lucky enough to travel to this spot on the planet, do it! What an incredible place Mugie Ranch is. The hospitality of Claus and the staff is amazing. The grounds are beautiful. The pool, the delicious meals, the lovely rooms, and the sundowners: all fantastic. Truly, the whole resort is to die for. All of that surpasses any resort I've visited.

But then, you are surrounded by these beautiful African animals and you get to experience wonderful safari drives with Claus-who knows his stuff-and you see these creatures up close. Every trip out was a new adventure and I learned so much. When your day starts with breakfast as you overlook elephants grazing below or wild dogs on the hunt, or any number of animal sightings, you know you have a good day ahead. And I feel so fortunate to have shared several of those magical days at Mugie Ranch.

Our visit to Ekorian was extraordinary! The setting in Laikipia Highlands is perfect, a luxurious tent camp set in the African Savannah within a Conservancy. The tents are well appointed with some of the most creative wood working I have seen.

The wildlife viewing is as good as it gets, with prides of lions, herds of elephants, rare oryx and hartebeest among the many animals I saw. Many of the animals are used to the Safari vehicles, ours a vintage 1960 open vehicle with seating in and above the main cabin - you can get so close to many of the animals it’s breathtaking.

The highlight for me was the kayak trip on Mugie Lake where we got so close to elephants you can hear them breathe and drink from the lake. We watched as two teenagers pushed each other in mock battle, creating a memory that will last a lifetime!

We hiked near the camp with our guide Patrick, and while on foot saw an African Buffalo (far enough away it was not a danger) Giraffe, Wart Hogs, and Impala. There is something special about seeing African wildlife while on foot.

We had a romantic dinner set up by the fire, on a cool crisp Highlands evening. The staff could not have been more friendly or accommodating and the food was very good.

In most National Parks, the wildlife viewing is a crowded affair. We saw no other vehicle during our two wildlife viewings and had to share the special moments with no one else.

Ekorian has WiFi, a swimming pool, and a trampoline for the kids. Bird viewing is available right on site!

This stay was one of the highlights of my East Africa travels!

Our ranger (Samson) left no stone unturned to get us to see as many of the wild animals as we could. Some have electronic tags so he was able to track them. He was very knowledgeable about the animals and their habitats. The entry fee is very reasonable at 600 Ksh ( our driver went in free) the ranger stayed with us for the entire trip which took 6 hrs.
They have a lovely baby giraffe which wanders round near the entrance and office and is very friendly.
We didnt know how rural this place was and didnt take any food or drink with us (big mistake!). A picnic would be advisable and the ranger will stop for a break under the picnic tree.
The park does quite a bit of research as well as conservation. It is owned by a Californian who visits regularly. We saw preparations for a wind turbines while we were there
Be prepared for a prolonged bumpy ride to the park, round the park and back again!

This is a unique resort located at Rumuruti- along Nyahururu- Maralal route. It is unique in that it offers quality rest, food and scenery especially a a long journey from the city. It is a paradise within a semi-arid area from which one has scenic focus, warm climate and cool serene environment.

Mugie is a beautiful ranch/conservancy in Laikipia, northern Kenya, and Mutamaiyo house is a gem of a place to stay. We spent 5 nights over Christmas - grandparents and families with kids - and it was perfect. The managers Rob and Storm were phenomenal and made everything seem effortless, and they had only just arrived themselves. We felt extremely fortunate to have overlapped with them. Nothing was too much of a problem. The whole staff team were great, the food was delicious and the menus really well planned and balanced. The cottages are stunning and there was loads of stuff of do - so no fear of getting tired of too many game drives. We mixed it up with bush walks, golf, kayaking and picnic at the dam, walking with the blood hounds and plenty of time in the solar heated pool.

The guides Solomon and Yusuf were excellent, passionate about wildlife and conservation and hugely knowledgeable. Solomon was idolised by the kids (ages 2-5) and he was amazing with them.

It is incredibly spoiling to be the only car on a game drive. We saw lions with their cuts, a lion feasting on a zebra, cheetahs, a serval cat, mating ostriches, tons of elephant, buffalo, giraffes, grevy and common zebra, warthogs, all kinds of antelope, and tons of beautiful birdlife.

Mugie is at over 1800metres and it is cool in the evenings - wonderful for sleeping, but remember your jumper - we underpacked a bit on warm clothes. Walking is easy, so light walking boots or trainers fine.

A once in a lifetime holiday!
