Fascinating place, very well preserved

Interesting place and very unusual as it is so well preserved. The chap in the visitor centre was helpful and knowledgeable too. A good way to spend an hour

Deciding to get as much use out our English Heritage membership as possible, we decided to look in here on our way back from Chesters fort. It was not easy to find, and found the car park at the end of a long narrow bumpy road/ track. Once there we were very pleased we took the trouble. The staff were... More

This castle is surprisingly well preserved which is probably due to the fact that it is not very easy to reach. We walked there from Corbridge, and it was a tough walk in the hills with a bit of woody vegetation. Interesting, the woods were full of wild garlic which I sort of liked. Very fresh air indeed. We eventually... More

What an interesting place to visit. If you're into exploring castles, hall houses, fortified manors & the like, this place ticks all the boxes and more. It's got a great history and there are plenty of architectural conundrums to get your head around while you're walking about. Just as good as the castle was the member of staff on site... More

Originally built as a manor house it was completed just in time for William Wallace & The Bruce to start raiding into England and so was upgraded with walls and defensive positions ( not that that save it!). It was still in use in the 1960's as it was converted into a farm house. It retains a lot of the... More

Basically a house. Very small. Not really worth £5.50 if ur just going there. But if your doing a walk by towards or from Corbridge. Sayin that it's still interesting to see such a beautiful building.

Good English heritage site which is a small castle previously used as a hall and it unusually has a roof ! Great little place and very helpful and friendly staff. Was really impressed and was good fun for me and my 6 yr old lad exploring. Recommended

Love this place. The man working in the ticket office was very friendly and enthusiastic and gave a good introduction to the site. Really liked the small courtyard and orchard and thought it very easy to imagine people interacting with the building in days of old. Beautiful castle and very well preserved.
