The city walls of Cittadella are a rare example of medieval means of defense with a still practicable, perfectly preserved parapet walk. As a matter of fact it is one of the most beautiful means of defense in Europe.The recent restoration and safeguarding of the ancient Parapet Walk allows visitors to admire the town from favoured viewpoints.

Having known that I will be in Padua for a few days. I decided that I will wonder outside the city for a day. There's not much to choose from because the region has bigger cities that need more than a day to appreciate what they can offer, such as Venice and Verona. In terms of distance, Cittadella fits the bill in that it looks interesting enough.
Getting there can be a problem as websites say there are trains and buses to Cittadella from Padua. However, there isn't much information as to how and where. There are trains, but they aren't that frequent. There is the bus, if you know where to look. Don't bother with the bus ticket office immediately outside the train station, they don't know and they aren't interested. That ticket office only deals with buses that go in and around Padua. What they don't tell you is that there is another collection of bus stops further to the left. These go to other parts of the Veneto, including Marco Polo Airport. The chap at the bus ticket office there is far more helpful. So the bus for Cittadella is on platform 14. Note, look for the Busitalia buses, these are either green and white or light blue. The buses are more regular and more comfortable. To get back, leave out of the Eastern gate in Cittadella. Walk out on the road and the bus back to Padua is on the other side of the road (left side).

To get up, head to the northern gates and go up the stairs. To be honest, it's a bargain, the staff are polite and there is no need to rush. I came on my own, but if your children like medieval themes, Cittadella is perfect. In terms of heritage tourism, Cittadella scores highly in my mind. A lot of places I've been to are too restrictive and the staff not being helpful. This is a huge contrast to heritage tourism in the UK, where it's professional and/or enthusiastic.

A walk around the top of the Cittadella walls is a wonderful experience. There are small "museums" at the Porta Bassano and Porta Padova gates that are very informative. The view are outstanding - both inside the City and outside. Don't miss it if you are in or near Cittadella

Stunning city walls that are so well preserved. I just wish there was a way I could get up there and see the views for myself. So much in Italy is now disabled accessible, but unfortunately not here which I do understand. I think they charge about €5 to walk around the Wall itself which would be worth it if you are able to. Parking at the start of the town is free

Good morning,
people in wheelchairs can visit the Tower "Torre di Malta", the museums inside and look out at the patrol walk over the walls. If the visit of Cittadella Walls were in his plans he could write us an email or call us, we would have opened a lift with a reservation. We hope he can come back, we wait for you.

Nice top view of the city and the mountains if you go on a sunny day. When we been the sun was really hot, so I reccomend to bring hat and water.
There are rooms with representations of the history of the city.
The entrance ticket are not expensive, just €5.
It's usually open from 9am till 5pm, but timing can change during the year.

I did this walk around the city walls whilst my friend browsed the shops. I loved the views both into the old town and out (especially towards the mountains). Although it was a hot day there are some places of shade under the arches you pass through and you can go completely at your own pace. Unfortunately I only got half way around because I'd arranged to meet my friend at a certain time and hadn't anticipated how long it would take me to get around (or how many pictures I would stop to take!) Anyway there is an exit half way and all the staff had a helpful knowledge of English. For a small €5 It's very well worth the visit.

We liked this little town but we loved the walkway on top of the old city walls. What a special treat. Once you are up on top of the walls it is about a mile or one and a half kms around the entire course. There are two entry ways at opposite sides of the wall and each has a place where you can pay to go up to the top for the walk and each had some museum items that dealt with the history of the town. We did walk the entire way and looked down at what was both outside and inside the walls. We really enjoyed this special town. The folks who were in charge of the museum area and who took your few euros were all very nice too. There were a couple of places where the top of the walls had to be repaired so that you could do the entire circumference walk but that was not a problem at all.

Took our time walking the walls after getting the bus from Padua. Not many people about and there are wonderful views of the Alps and Euganean hills.
Good value and we spent over an hour pootling round and looking in the museum.

The ramparts circling Cittadella allow you to look at this small Italian town from all angles.
They have been restored and in some sections have been replaced by thoroughly modern walkways.
Some of the larger entry towers have exhibits of little interest.
Altogether a mix of the old and the modern.

Cittadella's walls restoration (20 years long), is mostly a conservation intervention. Only when parts collapsed centuries ago, the path has been replaced by modern stairs or walkways. Reconstruction is forbidden by Cultural Heritage Law.
The Archeologic Museum isn't large, but hosts findings which demonstrate man life before Middle Age time.

Cittadella is a lovely walled city that has recently completed a renovation of the exterior walls.
One can now purchase a ticket to access the walkway around the city. The entire perimeter walk is over a mile long. On a beautiful day one can spend well over an hour admiring the beautiful vistas from the wall.
The walk also includes a museum filled with historical items from this town.
Occasionally they offer a night tour. Unfortunately it rained the evening when this was offered during our stay, but I imagine that the night walk must be fabulous.
I highly recommend taking the time to walk along the walls of Cittadella.
It is truly an experience worth making.

I had seen medieval castles before this one but this was definitely my best experience. Walking the walls of the castle gives you a unique perspective on medieval life. The views of the town within the castle as well as outside the walls is truly spectacular, especially with the mountains in the background. Expect the walk to take about an hour and a half. Cittadella is an excellent day trip for anyone interested in a real functioning medieval town.

Salve, ho visitato le mura molte volte in questi ultimi anni, come cittadellese volevo sapere come mai ultimamente le torri di porta Treviso e porta Bassano non si possono visitare. Una volta ricordo che si potevano visitare. Quella di Vicenza invece non la ho mai vista aperta. State facendo lavori o restauri? Vorrei suggerire di fare altrettanti musei in queste torri, magari rappresentativi di diversi periodi storici della città, come avete fatto della torre di Malta un bel museo medievale! Che ne dite? Non male come idea. Un ultima cosa riguardante il museo della civiltà paleoveneta che si trova al piano inferiore, ho notato che non è molto frequentato, forse perché non ci sono le giuste indicazioni quando si transita al piano superiore. Ho l’impressione che sia un po’ marginalizzato. Saluti e buon lavoro comunque. Gianluca

La torre di porta Bassano è aperta tutti i giorni e serve per scendere dal camminamento. Ci sono anche degli allestimenti all'interno della torre.
Porta Treviso cerchiamo di aprirla quando è possibile, ma non possiamo farlo ogni giorno.
Porta Vicenza non è ancora agibile all'interno.
Per quanto riguarda il Museo Archeologico è segnalato, e a tutti quelli che arrivano dal camminamento viene data la spiegazione di come raggiungerlo.
Grazie per i suggerimenti, molto interessanti, speriamo di poterli seguire.

Concordo con lei in merito alla conservazione e fare visitare le bellezze del nostro territorio..
Sicuramente una buona gestione e pubblicità fa sì che le persone si appassionino sempre di più all'arte..
Treviso tempo fa era un disastro..
Ci sono state amministrazioni che la hanno riportata ai vecchi splendori..
Sicuramente fare delle visite guidate all'interno di questa cittadina le farà scoprire piccoli scorci di un passato glorioso..
Posso dirle che tutti noi Italiani abbiamo un patrimonio urbanistico culturale immenso..ma non siamo capaci di amministrarlo.. tranne quelche piccola piccola realtà..

la visita dura circa 1 ora. Oltre alla passeggiata panoramica lunga un chilometro e mezzo, si possono visitare varie stanze museali lungo il percorso.

Secondo regolamento comunale sono ammessi cani di piccola taglia che possono entrare solamente se tenuti nel trasportino.
Il Camminamento di Ronda non è solamente una passeggiata, ma un complesso museale, si passa all'interno di stanze e musei all'interno delle torri.
