Let me start by saying that I organized this excursion for the pure pleasure of spending a relaxing family day surrounded by nature.
Not knowing that to visit the abbey you had to book, unfortunately we were only able to admire it from the outside.
That said, it was a wonderful day. We arrived in Civate, where I recommend leaving the car in the town to avoid finding yourself further up in very narrow streets which would then be difficult to get out of.
We walked up to the Crotto del Capraio restaurant, where I had booked lunch and after receiving detailed information on the routes from the kind lady at the counter, we began the excursion that took us to the Abbey.
From a certain point onwards the road becomes entirely uphill with quite slippery stones, so the use of suitable trekking shoes is recommended.
The route indicates a walking time of approximately 45 minutes but if you don't have suitable shoes the times will be longer.
For those who are not very fit, the journey can be quite tiring but you can still take breaks in some points where the ground is more stable.
We went on a very hot day and therefore you have to take into account that you sweat a lot and for this reason you need to have several bottles of water.
However, the uphill mule track winds in the shade and this makes everything pleasant despite the tiredness.
Once you get to the top, the landscape you can admire is fantastic, with a view of the mountains and Lake Annone.
The Abbey is an architectural jewel that extends over a green and well-kept lawn, where it is also possible to relax and have a picnic.
Not having booked the guided tour, the kind volunteer could have possibly included us in the second tour at 2pm but unfortunately at that time we had booked lunch at Crotto and therefore had to give it up.
It was a beautiful excursion that I recommend everyone to try at least once, remembering to book the guided tour first.
To be done again in the future!

truly a wonderful place, you can breathe an atmosphere of peace and serenity. The route is not difficult, you can easily reach the abbey in an hour. The panorama that can be admired leaves you speechless. I will definitely be back by the end of June!!!

I was told there is a nice church uphill, it's worth climbing your away up. It is not a nice little church, it's an incredible VIII century longobard abbey, in very good shape, with breath-taking frescoes and a tiny beautiful crypto. The legend says it was built by king Desiderio to thank God for healing his son Adelchi who had become suddenly blind.
Don't forget trekking shoes and drinks, it's quite a long way. The view from the area is absolutely fantastic

There are two possible paths. One with car access with a very narrow road, inconceivable.. The other from Civate accessible.

From the town of Pozzo it takes about 45 minutes. The path is steep making it challenging. In front of the church there is a beautiful lawn which is perfect for having a picnic lunch.

The abbey can be reached on foot in less than an hour from Civate. It is a jewel of medieval architecture. It is worth a visit, preferably guided by the volunteers present and it deserves to be included in the UNESCO sites
