The Cathedral of Holy Mary Assumption (Cattedrale Basilica Santa Maria Assunta in Cielo e San Flaviano) was built in the 11th - 12th Century.
The interior looks quite simple, although some ramains of old frescoes are still visible.
Admission is free, a (small) donation will always be appreciated.

This beautiful town extends on the border with the Itria Valley, a few kilometers from Polignano, Castellana and Monopoli. A lively and lively city, welcoming with excellent tourist accommodation. The Cathedral, the Aragonese castle and the Marchione castle are very interesting

If you are in Ruvo, there are many churches and cathedrals. If you can't get into all of them, you must see this one. The architecture is unreal. to think of how long it took to build and without any machinery. The various religious statues and altars are so beautiful.

We visited at the same time as a group of local school children and were allowed down into the crypt all the previous buildings could be seen with some mosaic floor still in place. In the church are remains of wall frescos

Having spent a few hours getting to Ruvo (not the nicest drive) we were disappointed to encounter a funeral taking place within the Cathedral which curtailed our visit. However, given that this is one of the core activities for any building of this nature, you cannot really complain!

What we did see was a glorious example of Romanesque architecture which, from a personal point of view comes as such a welcome relief from the full blown Baroque which is the norm in Puglia.

The simplicity is the delight although the carvings were of a high quality.

For the reasons already given, we were unable to visit the crypt or look around as we would have liked but this Cathedral is certainly worth the trip. That said, Ruvo is not located in one of the more interesting parts of Puglia so it's a stop en route somewhere else rather than a destination in its own right. The old town, whilst attractive, would not be my choice of a place around which to base my holiday.

We were staying near the Cathedral in the Corte Altavilla. We wandered in to it a few times and attended Sunday Mass there. Inside it is simple but really magnificent. A classically elegant building. Mass was a lovely cpmmunity celebration

We made Conversano our base for our tour of Puglia and stayed at a B&B a 5 minute walk from the cathedral. The cathedral is very simple, built in the Romanesque style, typically with massive thick walls and round arches and very few windows making the interior devoid of natural light.
