What an amazing and humbling experience we had on Sunday August 16 at 4:30pm. We saw lots of whales but had a very up close encounter with 2 beloved whales, Cloud and Bayou who seemed to be putting on a show for us based on crew member Amy who was talking to and encouraging them the whole time. I loved how owner Penny Graham and crew member Amy explained about the whales behavior and history during the entire trip and also gave us information on the local birds. Penny tried to make sure everyone including small children had an up close look at the whales. The entire staff and Penny were so friendly coming around and talking to everyone. This company really cares about their whales right down to the boat motor which is covered in a box cage so as not to hurt the whales. Definitely one to cross off my bucket list but I will be doing this again! Everyone needs to do this but only through Mariner Cruises.

We had the Mariner Cruises package, which included the whale watching and a night of B&B, for $165 for a double room. I can’t speak more highly of the whale watching, we saw a humpback and calf which was an absolute thrill. The cruise staff were welcoming and full of interesting facts. The B&B was quite basic as you has to share a bathroom, no TV and no Wi-Fi. However, for the price it’s great. The B&B was clean with lovely fresh towels and a help yourself breakfast of cereal, toast, preserves, tea and coffee. I would thoroughly recommend this package.
Brier Island is a very small community who are very welcoming but we would not recommend it for a lengthy stay as there is very little to do other than whale watching, however, if you want to get away from it all it’s ideal.

We did a 12.30 tour and traveled about 3.5 hours from the Halifax area. It was a clear sunny day but typically the mist rolled in just before we went out to sea. Penny and Amy were realistic in saying it would be much harder to find whales (a moving needle in a haystack where you can’t see far!) but they remained optimistic. It took about 1.5-2 hours and we were thinking we wouldn’t see any, then a celebrity whale turned up and put on a fantastic show! Then they found us an incredible whale parade, just awesome! 5 whales travelling together, so wonderful to see. Our 10 and 8 year old children loved it. It was so professionally run while remaining friendly and relaxed, we will definitely be back. Thoroughly recommend.

We had originally booked for a Wednesday, however due to the winds we were rebooked for the following day. We are overjoyed we didn’t let that deter us :)

Penny was such an amazing lead and her passion for her business is evident in her warmth, and Nova Scotian charm. She referenced: “whale watching is a privilege, not a right” and they all deserve the most recognition for the privilege they have awarded us all.

The knowledge, care, and joy radiates from everyone on their crew. It was such a pleasure to tour with them, we were fortunate enough to see a beautiful humpback, a seal, a huge bald eagle perched atop some pine trees. Penny is sure to let people know if they aren’t lucky enough to see any whales or aquatic life that they offer vouchers to return. We would happily return full price just to have the experience again.

Amy is a gem! So much to learn, as she is able to detail and explain the movements, traits and lifestyle of the majestic creatures she has come to know and love.

The bonus was the new puppy they have, it was his first time aboard and it was so fun for the children to interact with him!

Thank you Graham family, you’re truly a massive asset to Westport and Brier Island! Best wishes on the rest of the season :)

We booked an afternoon cruise after calling the office to determine which of our two days on Brier Island would offer better sailing conditions. Fortunately, we took their advice because sailings were cancelled for the following day due to rough seas.

Everything about our experience was excellent, including the up-close whale encounters. We saw several Humpback whales in close proximity to the boat (which was smaller than the whale watching boats on similar cruises we have taken in Maine and Cape Cod), including one breaching the water right next to the boat! We also saw whales slamming their pectoral fins against the water and diving into the water, exposing their tails.

The boat was very clean and well-maintained, including the bathroom (head).

wow, absolutely wow. We sailed with Penny and her crew August 8th on the sunset trip. The boat is well equipped, the staff are very knowledgeable and passionate about their work. Although they can't control the weather or the number of whales, we were treated to heavy warm air and we were surrounded by humpbacks. The price was certainly fair, in fact, it's excellent value per dollar. My mom had never been whale watching before, she was certainly not disappointed. I would highly recommend taking a trip to Brier Island and cruising with Mariner. I'll be back next summer.

We took our first trip to Nova Scotia to check off another bucket list experience and Mariner Cruises sure delivered! We felt completely safe at all times. The crew is passionate and knowledgeable, and Amy's passion for "her whales" is contagious. We were out for about 5.5 hours and it was worth every minute. There was a collective sound of awe on the first close sighting and we were able to sit for about 30 minutes being completely overwhelmed by the size and beauty of the whales. We chose the lodging/whale watching package which was a great value. The house is large and charming, and a good continental breakfast was provided. We were able to explore Brier Island and hike to seal cove to watch the seals play. Our experience on the island with Mariner Cruises was absolutely unforgettable. Thank you Penny, Amy, and crew!

We booked a Whale watching tour on the Chad &Sisters Two. Penny Graham and her Staff were VERY accommodating, Gracious, informative and most of all PROFESSIONAL. The weather was marginal with fog and overcast . but the Captain assured us it was safe and he would do his best. We saw two humpback whales and were , like all on board thrilled at the experience as well as the wealth of knowledge we learned about whales in general. The excursion was well worth the very reasonable price and we highly recommend these folks.

Excellent trip out on the Bay of Fundy. Saw many whales, including a mother and year old baby. Peggy and Amy welcomed everyone and also provided a brief education session while steaming back to shore. The captain took pains to divert the boat to another area once too many other boats were nearby. The boat was sturdy and safe. Cannot recommend them enough!

The greatest day of whale watching than I could have asked for. Penny and her staff were very knowledgeable, friendly, and caring for the people who took her tour. We were so lucky to have experienced the great sights of the Humpback whales and enjoyed the day to the fullest. I took over 800 pictures and so many whales were very close and gave us a show I'll never forget. Even after returning to shore the fun didn't stop, where we were greeted by a brown seagull who didn't want my homemade cookies but instead decided to perch on my head for a little while. I would recommend Mariner Cruises and rate them in the highest degree. I've been whale watching before but this was by far the very best. Thanks Penny and the crew, see you next year.

Thank you Velda, We are so pleased that you had a great experience with us! It's very easy to take hundreds of photos out on tour, each one just a little different than the last! Memories to last a lifetime! The seagulls here on Brier Island can be a little tame at times and we hope that only added to your enjoyment of the Island! We look forward to having you sail with us again!
