I've known Arraial do Cabo since the early 90s, it has always been a simple city, but with spectacular nature. I took some friends who were visiting Brazil to see the beautiful beaches that I praised so much. I was in shock when we were surrounded by men in camouflage uniforms at the entrance to Pontal do Atalaia, they surrounded the car saying it was forbidden to get on, they only accepted access via taxis for which you had to pay 15.00 per person... they were brutal, mocking, that's when I realized that it was not “public administration” or municipal guard….the city is dominated by a paramilitary group. Furthermore, the beach was full of dirt and bags were searched by another guy in camouflage clothing…horrible!!! Shocking how we left one of the biggest tourist paradises in Brazil handed over to criminals. Too sad

The beach really is beautiful, rare to see. However, getting there by land is complicated, there is no good structure, in fact there is no bathroom, shower, kiosk... there are carts, even good food. The road is TERRIBLE, full of potholes, the city hall collects so much and gives nothing in return for tourism. Taxi now in April low season costs 15 reais per person. And you have to wait for it to fill up.

It has no infrastructure and there are two ways to get there: by tour boat, which all arrive together at around 1pm and stay for 1 hour, or by car. If you choose to go by car, you need to arrive at 6 am to queue and stop your vehicle (parking with limited spaces) or take a taxi (around 60 reais to go and 60 reais to return). The beach is beautiful, crowded, with expensive shacks and no facilities, there isn't even a bathroom or shower.

Too sad for my experience in Arraial to have been that way. Worth a note 2 for the beach itself that is a painting, really something rare to see, however, the access to there is extremely bad, without any structure, messy crowd of people, walkers occupying the whole sand with rent of chairs and boat trips, garbage thrown by the corners. It's pretty hard to tell if it's worth going. A place so full of beauty and so poorly exploited. A pity

I went to Pontal beach, where there are the stairs. The landscape is beautiful but it's filthy. People sitting on the beach don't seem to care about the dirt, plastics, cups, straws getting into the water, ruining all the natural beauty. There is a lack of education among people and cleaning of the beach, which I imagine is a responsibility of the city hall. Unfortunately, that's it. If you want a crowded and dirty beach, this is the choice.

Beautiful beach, paradise, to spend the day. Reposeras and parasols charge much more than on other beaches but we did not rent because it was a bit cloudy. There are fish, not many at this time. We went by boat taxi but from what we saw you can calmly do the climb on stairs and even with a 21⁄2-year-old girl. When you get off looking at the sand, you can go left that there is more noise because boats stop excursions and loud music but it is more beautiful or right and you go to the beach where the Staircase is, it is less beautiful but quiet

A wonderful beach to enjoy an incredible day, you can reach the beach by car and go down the wooden stairs or by boat with the excursion. It is not allowed to bring glass bottles or speakers. It is a very beautiful beach with blue water and a very pleasant temperature where you can bring your drink and food and spend a wonderful day.

Beach itself, amazing. But it seems the public has forgotten the place.
Barkeepers occupying the whole sand with chairs. Depending on what time it is, you can't stretch your cane or whatever in the sand.
Prices above 100 reais for 2 chairs and a sunshine. If you don't, you're able to hear whispers from a distance.
As time goes by they start to open more chairs and put them on you. Almost trying to kick you out.
It makes me realize that at the top of the stairs there are people who should be monitoring, but they don't.
There in the corner near the stairs, already in the sand, there is a place that are making of garbage, which should be forbidden in my opinion. Everyone should take their garbage back. A lot for those who didn't do that.
In the same place, you can notice a pile of old broken chairs that the campers simply left there, not giving a correct destination to them.
Since they don't care, they should be kicked out of there.
A shame!

Prainhas do Pontal do Atalaia are really worth going to, they have a stunning beauty, the water wasn't that cold even though it was May, the sand is fine and white, the beach is beautiful. There are rocks that you can climb and take beautiful photos. It looks like a paradisiacal beach, access is via a very bad road, we paid R$20 to enter a “condominium”, the view from the descent is already beautiful, there are many steps to get there, take advantage and take photos. There on the beach we were approached by the guy who rents chairs and umbrellas. The harassment is great, very annoying how they did it, first he offered 2 umbrellas and 7 chairs for R$100 and we still had to eat at the certain stall. We said we would check with other people just to find out the price, the other one said R$70, it became an argument both between the two who rent because they have to respect their turn, and with us also because they didn't want to pay the price. He really pushes the envelope! They also come around all the time offering boat trips, they are very insistent, it's better to say that you've already done it. There isn't much food stall structure, few options. But it's so worth it, the most beautiful beach I've ever seen!!

We went in a shared taxi, 4 people fit in a bit tight. To go on foot it is not only far but the heat hits quite hard on the way. We did not rent lounge chairs with umbrellas because our overall experience in arraial do Cabo was bad. There is little space for those of us who bring our own umbrella. At noon the sea rises and you run out of sand. Many people are already leaving at that time. The ideal is to go early. When the water rises, those in the lounge chairs become very crowded. The water was clean and very transparent but icy.
