Towada-jinja Shrine is said to have been built in the 9th century. The jinja has an entrance from the village, and it honors Yamato Takeru. The site is green and other-worldly. Shrine and temple "hopping" is one of the things visitors to Japan will do a lot of. Towada Shrine is not large but the wooden construction gives it an ancient look. The shrine is in the middle of a forest adding to the sense of mystery.

One of the few 'attractions' in this unspoiled area. A pleasant walk or bike ride out round the lake. Close to the Maidens statue.
