full of forest long nosed gods, nicely carved wood and great views. Take a less busy nature trail on the way back!

The Buddhist temple located on the trail to the top of Mt. Takao, and near the cable car station so usually people come to there to pray by the cable car. It was established in 744. The praying pavillion was chic design, but the gate and the main pavillion were painted at colorful colors.

An ancient temple on the way to the top of Mount Takao. It is a Buddhist temple on Mount Takao. The temple offers a serene and calm surrounding and wonderful views around it.

This is a wonderful part of the Mt. Takao experience--one of several beautiful buildings along trail #1.

Just a short drive from Tokyo, Mt. Takao/Yakuoin Temple was a delight to visit. A path guides you up to the temple and summit. They say you can see Mt. Fujii at the top, but alas we were there on a cloudy day.

Too many tourists & sellers of goods for tourist!! I did not enjoy my visit....it was more like a street market with all selling the same things.

Of course there are many temples to visit throughout Japan, however it is nice to visit temples that are not surrounded by tourists and are more popular with the locals. Got a good atmospheric feel here and as with many temples it was simply beautiful.

Pretty nice temple along the way up Takaosan. We chose a different hiking path on our way down and it way less crowded. If you are fit and love to walk a less touristy path then try the alternative walk at Takaosan.

Many, many worshipers and walkers were at the temple the day we visited during prime koyo viewing. The courtyard was crowded with families taking photos in various positions in front of the Tengu statues and participating in what seemed like a variety of lucky fortune games. These Tengu statues are quite interesting, though difficult to photo, due to their location.... More
