About
CHILLIDA-LEKU is an outdoors museum that gathers the work of Eduardo Chillida (San Sebastián 1924-2002) in the properties of “Zabalaga farmhouse”, constructed in 1594 at the town of Hernani (Guipúzcoa-Spain). 10 kilometers far from San Sebastián, 40 sculptures of great format stand out on the ground of 12 hectares and a hundred small format works and drawings, created during 50 years of work, appear inside the restored farmhouse. In the same town in 1951, after his brief Parisian experience, Eduardo Chillida began his works in the forge of a blacksmith.

This is an open space/museum where you can walk around and are encouraged to feel the artwork (outside spaces only). Very tranquil place and amazing museum store. Highly recommend! was recommended by our concierge at our hotel and were glad we came!Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten May 20, 2024
- P Y9 contributionsFor a bit of culture.Walk among works of Chillida and also see the hamlet that arranged inside the estate. In general it is visitable, something expensive 14€ person for what it offers , if you love squealing you will throw something else, if not in 45 min. In El Plano you are missing many of the works you find there, as well as missing information of the works.Visited July 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten July 18, 2024
- johnmodestoModesto, California815 contributionsSpectacular sculpture in a lovely outdoor gardenThis is an impressive collection of outdoor and indoor art by the famous artist Chillida in a lovely garden setting. There are many outdoor sculptures, and there are also exhibits in two buildings, one of which is a charming old stone farmhouse. Accessible by train, bus, or car, but the parking lot might fill up on busy days. Highly recommended.Visited August 2024Travelled with friendsWritten October 7, 2024

This incredible home of the exceptional Basque artist Eduardo Chillida is only a 15-minute bus ride away. The museum is small but beautiful and has a separate room dedicated to the artist's wife, who was not only a wife and mother of 8 children, but also managed everything related to the artist and, above all, believed in him and supported him throughout his life. The sculpture park with the beautiful Basque farmhouse, the artist's former workshop, radiates so much peace and quiet and the sculptures, some of which are oversized, leave you in awe. They are perfectly embedded in the beautiful and spacious park and are as if they were one with nature. Magical!!

I had seen a sculpture hanging on top of the cliff at the entrance to the port of Pasaia. Well, I saw The Comb of the Wind clinging to the rocks at the end of La Concha in Donostia... A trip to Hernani-Luku had become essential. Magnificent, sumptuous. Yak

The perfect place to visit on a sunny day. With a walk in the park you can explore different sculptures by Chillida. Through the QR codes it is possible to access information about his aesthetics, his work methods and his inspirations. Totally recommend!

We were just there this morning. Beautiful open-air enclosure with some of the master's sculptures distributed in such a way that the visitor can enjoy a pleasant walk. The grass was wet and it was a joy.
There was no reduced price for teachers and there was no possibility of audio guides either. In a hamlet within the enclosure there were two women from the museum and another from security who were talking loudly very animatedly while the visitors remained silent contemplating the wonders of Chillida. (And that seems unacceptable to me)
The cafeteria and the store, very cozy.

In San Sebastian, we stay in a small hotel on Ondarreta beach, a short walk to the rocks where Chillida's "Peine del Viento" are imbedded. It was an added experience to see the rolling hills of Chillida Leku, his property where sculptures are strategically placed so that the landscape enhances their aesthetic properties. It was with delight that we found motifs of the Peine del Viento repeated in some metal scultpures. The Zabalaga farmhouse itself is sculptural with its huge beams in the interior. Here are small maquettes of Chillida sculptures as well as his 2-dimensional designs that repeat the power of his works.

This is the perfect way to experience the monumental art of Eduardo Chillida. This garden is reached easily by bus from San Sebastian and worth the effort to visit. You may encounter Chillida's sculptures in many cities of the world but to see many of them at together in this country garden setting is to glimpse the vision of this sculptor.

We loved San Sebastian, but we found it a cultural desert, at least as far as art and galleries and museums were concerned. This beautiful place and art refreshed us like an oasis. It seems that the Basque government does not wish to support it, although they do want San Sebastian to be City of Culture in 2016. You do really need some culture to become a city of culture, don't you? Man cannot live by pintxos alone...

The sculptures and other art are set in gloriuos natural surroundings and inside a carefully-restored and prepared building. This is a great place to visit--if you can. I visited as part of an organized group--I am not sure it is open to the general public.

We had the place to ourselves and what a treat. The grounds the studio, the artwork were all amazing. I believe you have to still email the foundation to get access to see the grounds and studio. Worth the extra effort.

This museum of Eduardo Chillida's work is well worth the 15 min drive from San Sebastian. Plan to spend a few hours here to wander the space and experience his sculptures. The rebuilt farmhouse exhibits his smaller work and macquettes. There is also a small intimate cafe that offers lunch and beverages. This place will stay with you in memory for a long time.

A chi bisogna rivolgersi?

Is the museum still closed even though it is San Sebastian's year as European City of Culture? We couldn't find out in order to visit and it was too far to take the risk. The website says both that it is open 24hours a day and that it is clear see. Which is it, Trip Advisor? Thanks.

Obrigada.
