What a lovely space in front of the Basilica. The Christmas decorations were on display when we were there.

Plenty of benches to sit on and watch the world go by. There are a number of statues next to the sea wall commemorating the leaders of the island's original population, the Guanches.

What a very nice large plaza.
Plenty of space to move around.
Go in one direction to the basilica.
Go the other way to the nine giant statues that face you.
Plenty of photo opportunities for you family and friends.

It is the fabulous 9 statues lining the plaza at the sea-facing perimeter that make this square so memorable. They are all worthy of awe inspiring “Night At The Museum” magic. The square itself is very large , and a heat-trap in the sun. A good few places to take a bench seat in the shade of trees. Plus, when it’s windy you near get blown into the church. Had fun watching people being taken by surprise by large volumes of sea-spray coming over the barriers.

what I liked most were the statues of the local leaders and the waves that were huge when I visited the place. Please take into consideration that my critic is not a recent one. I also liked the small shops around the plaza and their smiling owners. (I am obliged to state a date of my visit but it will not be correct. I visited the place in 2013).

A lovely place to sit and watch the world go by. On a Sunday all the Spanish come out to congregate in the Plaza, many visit the Basilica to put flowers and see the 'Black Madonna'.

A nice setting for a little history lesson of the people of the island. The statues are Kings of the Tenerife (Guanches) and placed strategically on the sea side beside the Basilica of Candelaria in the large Square of Saint Patron of the Canary Islands. The area is a great place to walk around and take photos. Aside from the Basilica and statues there are plenty of cafes, restaurants, and other shops to visit. Parking is limited around the area as it does get pretty busy. If you're looking to learn a little history of Tenerife, admire the architecture of a Basilica, and grab a bite or a coffee this is a great spot to spend a few hours, for all ages.

When we visited it was bedecked by bunting stretching from a central pole out to the perimeter of the plaza - very colourful.
The statues of the Menceyes Guanches are also well worth a look.
