We had an amazing tour and demonstration with the women at the co-op. They have many beautiful items for sale. The women who participate in the co-op receive 80% of each item's price tag and the remaining 20% helps to run the co-op. Our tour guide spoke impeccable English and was very thorough in her demonstration. A must do in San Juan La Laguna!

This beautiful shop is a home for woman to do their labor with dedication and authenticity. For generations these woman are making the most fine products out of cotton. The passion for their job you can tell from the bright colors and creativity you find in the original hand-made products. They give you a class/demonstration about the whole process from the cotton to the product. By selling the products they support the woman in the village and by that way they protect the art of handmade clothes with natural products. I recommend this place for families, groups and couples. You can buy products (good souvenirs for people back home, or just for yourself) and you can ask for a demonstration were you pay for. I definitely go back if I get the chance.

This amazing place is an absolute DO NOT MISS. We wandered in here just on a day trip and it has become one of the top 3 places I’ve ever visited. We watched a presentation on how these talented women make the most beautiful garments to blankets by hand. These women work tirelessly and with some of the most talented artistry I’ve seen. The goods are sold in the shop, it opened my eyes and my heart to the talent and timelessness of some of the basic things we take fir granted. If you are lucky enough to visit- well, you’re lucky enough.

A great place to shop AND to learn! I came here to learn botanical dyeing and traditional backstrap weaving and I am SO GLAD that I did. I just walked into the shop and Delphine, the shopkeeper, helped me arrange the classes. I picked the project that I wanted to do (options might include a wall hanging, a table runner, four place mats, a scarf, etc.) and selected the botanical dyes that I wanted to work with. Then, the next day, I went back to the shop and there was an elderly Mayan lady waiting there to take me to her home for the classes. I worked with Nicolessa and her daughter, Ruth, for eight mornings on this project. It was, without a doubt, one of the highlights of my time in Central America trip. I loved spending time with them in their home and they were so patient and kind. I learned the whole process of botanical dyeing and wove four beautiful placemats. I gained such an appreciation for the artistry of these women and it was a great cultural experience. I now understand how much time and effort goes into crafting these beautiful textiles and will think twice before trying to bargain too hard in the markets! If you don’t have time to do both the weaving and the dyeing, you could always choose to do just one or the other and you could also choose a smaller project than the one that I chose to do. Don’t worry if your Spanish skills are limited—it won’t matter! This is hands-on learning at its best and your teachers have experience working with foreigners like me who don’t speak much Spanish. I highly suggest offering a tip or giving some gifts (fresh fruit is always a good choice) to the teachers at the end of the classes. They seemed to really appreciate it when I brought fresh fruit, eggs, pancake mix, canned peaches, cereal bars for the kids, etc. I also gave a cash tip at the end of the week. I would do these classes again in a heartbeat. I hope to come back again next year!

It was so informative to learn about the history and traditions of weaving. I learned about the various natural plants and insects that we can use to make colored dyes and how crafty the work is. Thumbs up to the ethics of this business as well – weavers get paid once they finish the product and each product shows exactly who weaved it, how many days it took/profit made.

Note that we were told the tour was free by someone else (information can become outdated), but upon arrival we discovered that there was a cost of 25QZ, unless we end up purchasing a product. Fair because we received such an informative tour!

Our group of nine visited this weaving cooperative and received a wonderful demonstration by Ana showing how the marvelous textiles are made. The quality of their goods is great and cooperative ensures that the weavers get 80% of the sale and the cooperative has 20% for operating expenses. Ana’s mother language is a Mayan dialect. She learned Spanish and then English on her own. Her skill in both languages was remarkable.

This is the place to go when visiting San Juan and wanting to get authentic Mayan weavings. My group really enjoyed Ana's care in showing us around the store, and especially appreciated the demonstration and talk that Delfina offered us to explain how the cotton is harvested, spun, and dyed to be ready to weave. She gave us such wonderful information about how the cooperative was formed and how it supports the Mayan women artisans with fair pay and ethical practices all around. It felt so good to be able to support their mission and the female weavers as I shopped for such high quality, hand woven products. There are a lot of places to buy woven items in San Juan and around Lake Atitlan, but I highly encourage you to make the trip to Casa Flor Ixcaco, to learn about their work and the collective, and to spend your money with the first and longest running Mayan women collective of weavers. You'll be very happy that you did given their great quality, and the mission you're supporting.

You really get to learn how fabrics are made from start to finish. Ask for Delfina! She will treat you well and help you learn and you can ask her so many questions. She is a local and speaks perfect English. There is also an amazing gift shop where clothes and other gifts are tagged with the date made and how long it took to make the very item you are holding. Most we bought took a week or more to make. It really helps you appreciate the craft of hand made weaved products and fabrics. Eye opening experience and an opportunity for a truly authentic experience where you can support local friends entrepreneurs who are practicing an age old craft and who are raised in the traditions. One of the most memorable experiences of visiting Lake Atitlan. When you get off the boat you can walk 10 - 15 minutes up the hill or take a quick and fun tuk tuk ride. Our driver knew the location and Delfina!

We had the immense pleasure of hearing and seeing a marvelous presentation on weaving, started with the raw cotton to the finished textiles. Delfina is a member of the cooperative and speaks three languages, the Mayan dialect, Spanish and English. She was very clear, answered questions well and made us feel at home. I would rate this as a must if you visit San Juan.

It’s a woman’s co-op preserving the traditions of Mayan textile weaving. The women there are the sweetest people I’ve ever met! The colors they use are so vibrant and it was so cool seeing all the different plants they use to dye their string with! We watched a demonstration of their weaving and enjoyed their shop. 10/10 don’t leave San Juan la Laguna without stopping by!
