The area
Neighbourhood: Ginza / Tokyo Nihonbashi
Ginza is famous for being a trendy hotspot, but it's also a downtown area with shops that were founded over a hundred years ago. Department stores and luxury boutiques line the route from Nihonbashi to Ginza. It's a long established tradition to shop and stroll while the road is closed to traffic. Luxury hotels, world class cuisine from talented chefs, and a collection of glitzy clubs will make this area popular with anyone looking for a night out.

Find the start of the course where there is a map (see attached photo) and it also helps to pace your run as there are distance markers embedded in the pavement. Also nice to start from there as that's where most runners meet and also stash there water bottles for after the run.

Enter the park across from the North Exit of Hibiya Station. That corner of the park is the Kokyogaien. That you can find listed in maps of the imperial palace.

Overall the area is very nice and upscale. You have the Peninsula Hotel and other upscale accommodation and shopping in the area.

This is smack bam right inthe middle of Tokyo. One round is 5.5km and you can access metro in various areas of the round. There are also about 3 bathrroms in the round and drinking fountain. As it is around the imperial palace, there are guards and safe to run even at night for single woman. Interesting views along the way too.

5k course around the imperial palace. Has some slight inclines and is great for beginners. Palace as well as its surrounding are well maintained with lots of security so safe running anytime and quite scenic. Starting point can be anywhere, but the distance notification tiles begin near Hibiya. You are asked to run counter-clockwise. This is to avoid accidents since there are tourists and elders walking about as well. There are a couple of run stations around the course that provides lockers and shower.

I woke up ealy and went out a run along the pavement that outlines the Imperial palace. The sun was just coming up and warming up the cold morning. Undaunted, I started on my counter clockwise route of the running course. I run on and off, but this was a run I was looking forward to. It took me about 45 min with lots of stops to take pics. It was about a 5km easy run. Lovely run!

Our family arrived in Tokyo with a bad case of jet lag, so early the first morning (5:30AM) we headed to the Imperial Palace and happily found this course. As Sunday morning unfolded we merged into the routines of locals who were running, cycling, and walking the course. Following the wall of the Imperial Palace gardens, the course gave us a good introduction to the area and a much needed physical start to our stay in Tokyo. If you visit Tokyo in the summer, then the best time to experience the course is early in the morning -- even then it's hot!

Exactly 5K around the palace with no traffic lights to hold you up and very impressive scenery. There was a wide range of joggers/runners on the route.

Little to complain about this course- Nice views of the moat around the palace. Unhindered running paths. Lots of greenery. There was some construction when I did my morning run and runners generally follow a counter clockwise route. Great course in the middle of the City..

Very popular running route around the Imperial Palace. Good views -- as long as you aren't looking at the road!

I get fed up waiting at traffic lights when running the city streets -- so this is a great change. The course is ~5km and mostly flat with one long uphill/downhill section.
