Neighbourhood: Akabane / Itabashi
In Akabane and Itabashi, visitors can get a glimpse of the ordinary day-to-day life of Tokyo. On the east side of Akabane station, there are many traditional shopping districts and small izakayas, while on the west side, there’s a modern shopping mall. Itabashi is currently being developed as a residential area with a huge 1.1km long shopping street that extends from east to west. Rows of shops and izakayas target the down to earth everyday needs of locals. Both Akabane and Itabashi are notable for their easy access to the city center as well as their proximity to Ikebukuro.

I went to Jujo, which is one of the three major Ginza shopping streets in Tokyo. It's conveniently located right after getting off at JR Jujo Station. The shopping street has an arcade, so it's great even on rainy days. There are a variety of stores selling food, miscellaneous goods, clothing, and more.

This is the main covered shopping street in Jujo, just five minutes north of the Ikebukuro Station. Because of Jujo's location, it's much calmer, quieter, and less crowded than other shopping streets in Tokyo. Still a great variety of shops selling clothes, housewares, food, and anything else you could want, but in a much more relaxed atmosphere. As others have mentioned, it's a nice neighborhood shopping street of the beaten tourist path.

Jujo will take you back to the days when the local life took place at the shopping street . You will meet shop owners displaying their fish., fruits, prepared foods, housewives riding their bicycles shopping for the dinner. It seems that everyone knows everyone, exchanging greetings and chit chat with all..
See what typical family will share at the table tonight. Enter a restaurant and feel the looks greeting you. Take a seat order your dish and watch the smiling faces around you, They want to ask you questions... It s a family atmosphere, everyone welcome. Stop by any shop and you ll get a shy smile. Discover the Japan of yesteryears ... Enjoy it... Not many JUJO remaining in Tokyo.
