About
Nazobako was founded in August of 2015. In the years since we opened our first establishment and we have created, designed, and facilitated a wide range of puzzle-based games and experiences, including escape games, outdoor scavenger hunt games, and corporate team-building events. Since closing our escape game facility in Asakusa due to covid in 2020, our team has shifted to new ways of working. Now based out of our office and workshop space Nazobako Lab, we continue to create and produce new puzzles and activities for customers and teams. No matter what day-to-day life throws your way, we hope that our puzzles will put a smile on your face and give you a sense of wonder and exhilaration at the mysteries all around.

Traces of the history and culture of the Edo (old Tokyo) era remain vividly in Ueno and Asakusa. Spacious Ueno Park is a great place to relax and visit a variety of different museums and galleries. At Ameyoko which starts in front of Ueno station, the grocery stores and clothing shops are crammed alongside fishmongers. It gets particularly busy at the end of the year, when many people go on shopping sprees. The town of Asakusa, developed around Sensoji temple, has many shops selling goods and clothing from old Japan, making it a great place for souvenir hunting. It's also known for various annual festivals, and the whole district gets involved with the huge Sanja Festival in May.

My husband and I were recently in Tokyo and were looking for things to do that we’ve never done before. I stumbled upon this escape room and thought it would be a fun and new thing to do. I booked a reservation on their website and paid for two people (very easy to do). We arrived a few minutes early and were promptly greeted and shown around the place. The staff were all super friendly and after a fun picture dressed like super sleuths, it was time to get started. My husband and I have never done an escape room before and figured trying one in Japan would be an adventure. And it definitely was. We learned very quickly we are terrible at escape rooms and needed the help of the clues (and even the staff) to figure out what the heck we were doing. I chose the Samurai room thinking it wouldn’t be too difficult, but for novices, it was definitely a challenge. The guy who was our game master (sorry, I didn’t get his name) was so incredibly nice and told us we could stay and finish the room if we wanted after we ran out of time. It took us an extra 20 minutes, but we finally escaped. Thank you again for that!

After we were done, we were given some sweets and a beverage. It was a very nice touch and we appreciated it very much. We definitely recommend Escape Game Nazobako. It was a lot of fun! And everything is bilingual, so don’t worry if you don’t speak Japanese.

Great fun! The physical location shut down due to COVID, however the team now sells walking tour puzzle books online, and this was honestly the best way we could've seen Asakusa. We got to go at our own pace (while having fun), and it took us through areas we would have never thought to explore ourselves. Will definitely be grabbing the other books when we do the other areas!

Please see photos for examples of what the puzzle-solving aspect looks like (very minor spoilers for what some of the locations are, but no solutions visible).

A note for international visitors: they only ship to Japan, so I recommend ordering your book about a week out and getting it shipped to your hotel.

First of all, the room was clean, and they basically give you unlimited tips, as long as you have enough time (1 tip -1 min). The puzzle was a little easy for me as I have been playing in few other countries. However, they have english version, which is really good for tourist. The puzzle are good. The prop is VERY good. Beautiful and intrigue, The way they hide things is also really really good. Thumbs up for the amazing props

The staff spoke good english and have assisted my poor BF in trying to secure a proposal, even assisting in hiding the flower and coming in on required time to help out with the event.

My 5 star rating is towards the service of the staffs. Not only they helped my guy, they also assisted in providing us tea (i was too overwhelmed haha), kept my things in locker, retrieved it, help my guy keep his flowers in a pail of water and so on. Kudos and thank you very much for all your help.

This is definitely a good place to be. Great time, Great Service.

I tried 2 game rooms this time at once. Both games has interesting story and nice decoration with many details. It made us feel like in some many years ago. All the staffs were very friendly. We were very comfortable with their professional way from their first greeting to relaxing time after the games.
I should keep the details of the game, as it is escape game, but I would like to it must be enjoyable for everyone. It's more than just a escape game. It's total entertainment!
I'm sure be back again for another game!!
Must for everyone!!!
今まで行った脱出ゲームとは違って、お店にいる時間すべてが現実と離れて、別の場所にいる感じでした。
もう一つゲームがあるので、次回はそれにトライしに行きます!

The 6 of us came here as it was the only English-friendly game we could find in Tokyo. Some of us are experienced players who have tried about a dozen escape rooms (both franchised and independently owned) in Europe, the US, and Asia. This one was among our least favorite ones.

Things we liked:

- Very friendly staff
- Great interior design, both inside and outside the escape rooms
- Game master looking at us play through a camera (can seem obvious, but is not always the case in other places)

Things to didn't like:

- We booked 2 identical Samurai rooms and made 2 groups thinking to compete each other. The layout of the rooms were different and we did not start the play at the same time (each game was started by the same person, entering with us and simply setting a pocket timer manually)

- Hints, reminders of time remaining, as well as optional choices to be made during the game are given by... entering the room! Our game was interrupted a total of 6 times, which completely ruined the experience.

- Clearly not enough things to do in the room. After 30 seconds of thorough searching I had found everything that was hidden in the room. Besides, there were only 5 locks to open in the room, meaning that for a team of 5 players, each would have only 1 to open... The staff didn't seem to realize the problem of having teams escape with 30-40 minutes to spare.

We will not visit this place again and will think twice before trying the Escape Hunt franchise elsewhere.

Hello eutectique, We are very sorry that despite our efforts, you didn't enjoy your experience at Escape Hunt Tokyo. We really appreciate your mentioning of the things you liked at our premises. I will try to address the different issues you have pointed out: - It is true our Samurai rooms slightly differed from each other when you visited us, but the good news is, it is not the case anymore. In addition, when two groups want to compete, we do our best to make them start at the same time, which is easier when each group has its own game master. In your case, the same game master had to handle your two groups, and could thus not start the game (accompanying each group in their room) at the same time. However, since your goal is to escape the quickest possible, it is easier after the game to compare your escape times, even if you have not started at the same moment. - As I mentioned earlier, we have changed a few things since your visit. We do indeed enter the room to give you hints, but now only on your demand. We find it nicer to be there for you if you need us, rather than communicate unilaterally through a screen, for example. This way, we also make sure to only give you hints when you want them, and do not risk to help you solve a puzzle when all you needed was a little bit more time. - You were really quick to escape, and we congratulate you for that: you probably broke a record! But you have to keep in mind that not all of our customers are as experienced as you when it comes to escape games… It is true that for a group of 5 persons, each person will only open one lock. However, we have never seen one person solving each puzzle by him/herself: to solve a puzzle and find the code that opens a lock, the whole team always has to work together. Also, we have never had a group escaping with 40 minutes to spare, and the very rare groups escaping with 30 minutes to spare are usually proud of themselves! We hope our answer helps, and we thank you for your honest review, for it helped us make the experience even more enjoyable for our other customers. Best wishes, Escape Hunt Tokyo

It was my first time to visit escape game. It was something more than game, could enjoy every each minute since entering the venue, welcomed by friendly and professional staff, time-flies an hour in playing game etc..
Usually it was very hard to find some good amusement in Japan for foreigners but this is the one I'd love to recommend to everyone.

Having tried many escape rooms all over the world (even another Escape Hunt in Bangkok) we found this one (the Samurai room) rather disappointing. There are usually two types of games: very difficult riddles but well engineered (once you find the solution you know how to proceed) or fairly simple riddles badly thought-through (you solve them but don’t know what to do with the solution). This room was the second type, which is way less fun and engaging. Also this is the only escape room we’ve tried where the staff gets into the room to give you the hint, which disrupts the momentum and game-playing. Having said that, the staff running it is very welcoming and kind, 5 stars to their service. If you’ve never played escape rooms, then give this one a try, otherwise avoid it!

It was my first time to visit a place like this.
I just can say the escape hunt was amazing. We tried Samurai room where filled with very Japanese items.
The mystery was a bit difficult for us but the very friendly game master gave us some hints with very professional ways.
I'm sure I will be back to try other mysteries in my next visit in Tokyo.

Wherever we travel we always try to test ourselves in a local escape room. In this case, we successfully went through the Samurai Espionage challenge! the adventure is nicely designed, with interesting puzzles and riddles to solve. On top of that, you have the chance to be transported to the ancient Japan, a certainly unique experience for us as foreigners.

Pros: adequate difficulty, nice environment, good story, friendly staff.

Cons: perhaps the only small drawback is the fact that the Game Master must come into the room when you request a hint, something that cuts a bit the tension & concentration of the team during the game.

In summary, we would highly recommend it!
