I had not ever visited the Ueno Zoo. My grand kids compelled me to do so- they wanted to see the panda! What a great day we had!

The zoo was for me the most sadest visit i have ever made. Almost every animal was old and alone. The places were smaler than normal. I just feel sad! The price could be expensiver(500yen/adult) but the animals need company and more space! In my...More

We were in the Zoo during Sakura season, so it made it little more beautiful. The Zoo itself is quite nice. We entered thru Benten Gate and therefore avoided the massive crowd at the Main Gate, waiting for panda. But when you start looking into...More

Very close to the railway station, a walk through the park will get you there. By early morning all the tickets for the baby panda were gone. One elephant had died recently and none were on view atm. Entry was very cheap. The zoo is...More

We visited this zoo because of the range of wildlife that you could see, we arrived an hour early and there were huge queues for people wanting to get the tickets to see the baby panda. We returned half a day later and the queues...More

My husband and I visited while staying in the area, before I realised it was the oldest zoo in Japan, and we had a great time. The admission fee is under 1000 yen, but the facilities aren't lacking. In fact, the coin lockers and ladies...More

We were drawn to this by the news of the baby panda. It’s cheap to get in (600 yen) but only once you are there do you discover you need a ticket to see the baby and all were sold out for the whole day...More

For 600 yen you get access to the entire zoo. It was extremely crowded, but it ran so smoothly and was so nicely organized as far as going to see the pandas. Upon entrance, you get a ticket with a specific time for you to...More

I do have myself to blame as I read the reviews about the enclosures being small, but went anyway. But they weren’t just small, they were cruel in some cases. I understand the elephants display was under renovation but having elephants locked in such small...More

Traces of the history and culture of the Edo (old
Tokyo) era remain vividly in Ueno and Asakusa.
Spacious Ueno Park is a great place to relax and visit
a variety of different museums and galleries. At
Ameyoko which starts in front of Ueno station, the
grocery stores and clothing shops are crammed
alongside fishmongers. It gets particularly busy at
the end of the year, when many people go on shopping

We used cash. You use an atm type machine to buy the tickets. It wasn't expensive to get in. I think it was 600 yen.

The zoo and its surrounding area offer quite enough shading from the sun, but yes I would second the previous review and suggest for you to bring an umbrella.
