Not too impressive, western collection was small and not in world first class tough. If compare with NYC, or any other famous museums in the Europe. Need further improvement. Kind of disappointed! :(

If you like old paintings of Dutch and Italian painters go check it out. Not really mindblowing pieces but still good for a few hours of relaxed views.

I visited this museum, 11 years ago, when we were exchange students. I wanted a taste of "home" since I'm living on Okinawa and I grew up on "western art" in the States. They had a "movie" in Japanese that I highlighted various pieces of...More

I'm not an art fan but the thing I saw there was amazing! The museum consists of 2floorsx2buildings. It is a perfect place for art lovers or even couples. Entry fee is not expensive and it is completely worth it.

This museum is a great way to relax if you're tired of the crowds of Tokyo, especially on an evening when the museum closes late. Great selection of artwork.

The National Museum of Western Art is one of the several museums in Ueno Park. I went there in the afternoon on a weekday. It's quite crowded with the majority of the visitors being Japanese. Maybe it's because the main building designed by Le Corbusier...More

While there are definitely "better" museums devoted to western art, this one in Tokyo is certainly a worthwhile visit given one understands it is a "mid-size" museum that shouldn't be compared to some of the greats in the West. Still, it is a super visit....More

The museum of western art is a good location to check you if you find yourself in the Ueno area. Make sure to check out the zoo nearby with panda bears.

The building is now an UN heritage site. It's worth mentioning that there are also lots of Rodin's sculptures in front of the museum. You definitely can enjoy these sculptures without entering the museum. I strongly recommend you should visit here if you love western...More

Ueno, Asakusa
Traces of the history and culture of the Edo (old
Tokyo) era remain vividly in Ueno and Asakusa.
Spacious Ueno Park is a great place to relax and visit
a variety of different museums and galleries. At
Ameyoko which starts in front of Ueno station, the
grocery stores and clothing shops are crammed
alongside fishmongers. It gets particularly busy at
the end of the year, when many people go on shopping
