For anyone looking for great tours in and around Tokyo or Japan, give this company a serious look. I took a tour to Kamakura and the guide, Yuriko, was a native of the area. She had grown up, and gone to school there. Her English was good. We were able to communicate very well. She was able to give great... More

My wife and I visited Tokyo with another couple and booked with Backstreet Guides on the recommendation of Trip Advisor after reading reviews. We did a private tour customized to some of the sights we wanted to see. The staff were quick replying to emails and made the planning simple and easy to do. On the day our guide was... More

I have visited Tokyo numerous times with customers and always taken them on the more commercial trips to see the sights - never again! We had a great day with the very knowledgeable Mikiko on Tuesday who gave us not just an insight into some of the attractions but also of Japanese culture and history. The Tokyo fish market was... We did Tokyo day trip, night trip private and Kyoto day trip with backstreet guides. The guides made the trips interesting and fun and you felt they wanted you to have a good time and looked after you. We did other tours with other companies in Japan but backstreet guides were definitely the best . All 3 trips were very memorable... More

Mayu is a bubbly, enthusiastic, considerate, and knowledgeable guide. She showed us and our mid-twenties sons sides of Tokyo one can't even imagine and could never find. A street where girls go for glamour shots and fashion contact lenses. A tiny alley of bars with 6 seats. So much neon. Japanese pancakes we made at the table. And dozens more... More

We did the all day Tokyo tour. It is an ALL DAY English only tour. Overall, we had a great time. Mayu was an awesome guide. She was fun and well educated. We liked the smaller group size. Could not have imagined a better way to get a sense of the City in one day. Probably not great for kids... More

This night tour was a must! Probably i would lost much of Tokyo offers without Mayu's explanation. Mayu is our guide that introduced Tokyo's real nightlife. We could reach much more than you can expect. 6 intense hours with a great discovery! I recomend enthusiastically!

We booked 2 tours in advance with Backstreet Guides in Tokyo, but ended up doing a 3rd tour because we enjoyed our guide so much. Lucky for us, we had the same guide for all 3 tours. Our guide's name was Rie and she was absolutely amazing - we felt like we made a friend in Tokyo and it was... More

We (2 couples) took a full-day tour of Tokyo with Rie. Communication with the company before arrival was excellent and they kept us informed of the process throughout. Our guide was Rie, and she was fantastic. She provided a lot of very interesting information about the city and the various attractions. She had a good sense of humor and was... More

Hi can the tours below possible? We're ok to be part of a group tour. If so, appreciate if you could give me quotation. The trip will be this December. Let me know please your email add so I can email you.

You will first visit the Tokyo Tower, where you can enjoy a panoramic view of Tokyo from the observation platform. Next is the Meiji Shrine, the finest example of Japanese shrine architecture. Then driving through the Akasaka Guest House. The Akasaka Guest House is a magnificent western-style palace built in the baroque style. Next drive by the Japanese Capitol, dominated by a massive tower and visit the Imperial Palace East Garden. Here you can enjoy a pleasant walk through the garden as a place of historical interest and scenic beauty. We drive through the shopping district of Ginza. You will enjoy Japanese style lunch (only included in the tour if lunch option is selected at time of booking). We continue to Hamarikyu garden which is a typical Daimyo (Japanese feudal lord) garden in the Edo period with a tidal pond. Next enjoy a 30 minutes boat ride on the Sumida River. After the cruise, you have a chance to see Ninja and Samurai performances at the pier. At the end of tour, visiting the Asakusa Kannon Temple and walking down the brightly lit Nakamise shopping street, then we drive through Kappabashi area where restaurant supplies and wax food samples are sold, and Ueno and Akihabara.

*with hotel pick-up and drop-off for the above hotels.

Enjoy the scenery of rural Japan during the drive to Mount Fuji. You will have a panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean and grand mountains from an altitude of 8000 feet. Then you will take the double-wired sky gondola for a breath-taking view of the volcanic Hakone Mountains, arriving at Owakudani Valley (the Valley of Hell). Admire the view of steam escaping from the rugged mountains of Owakudani. You will also have the chance to try an Onsen Tamago (an egg boiled in hot spring water). Next, a boat ride on peaceful Lake Ashi, you can sit back and relax amidst the picturesque and serene natural beauty of the crater lake. We then return to Tokyo by motorcoach.

Staying in Shinagawa / Gotanda

Neighbourhood Profile
Shinagawa / Gotanda
In Shinagawa, an office district shares space with luxury residential buildings and the scene is constantly changing with rapid development. Ikedayama park and Togoshi park are great places to see beautiful traditional Japanese gardens with ponds, as well as enjoy the changing seasons. Shinagawa was a post and a port town during the Edo era and the lavish old Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples at Shinagawa and Ebara are very popular. It's a great place to get in touch with the old Edo atmosphere on a pleasure boat cruising along the canal. The neighboring area around Gotanda station is a study in modern contrasts filled with unique restaurants and a lively nightlife.
