We had a fantastic tour with Mayu all around Tokyo. She was an amazing guide, very knowledgeable and happy to answer all our questions. The tour itself covered a lot of cool places all throughout Tokyo including a really yummy yakitori dinner. We would never have found some of the places without this tour, and we learnt a lot about... More

I was solo in Tokyo over a weekend before working the next week. I wanted to be able to see some of tokyo at night but was not comfortable going by myself. I booked the evening tour with backstreet. It turned out to be one other woman, the guide and me. It was so much fun. We had a great... More

We spent a fascinating day with Yoko. It was certainly worth booking a private tour as the whole day was designed to our personal likes. We were interested in heritage and had a number of specific dietary requests. The day was packed with all the things we requested. Yoko was well-informed, spoke excellent English and had great charm, combined with... More

I was traveling as part of a group of three and arranged a tour of Asakusa and Akihabara, starting from my hotel in Shinjuku. Although it was my third time in Japan, I was traveling with my niece and her boyfriend and wanted the help of a guide to make sure we covered everything during our limited time in Tokyo.... More

I am so thankful we discovered Backsteet Guides on TripAdvisor. We were in Tokyo for only four nights and needed to make the most of our time. We booked three day tours and one evening tour. You tell them what you are interested in then relax and enjoy. We saw everything we asked for plus many hidden gems. Day one... More

We really enjoyed this night tour with Mayu. If you do it, be prepared to walk a lot at a quick pace which is necessary at certain points of the tour where you are trying to make it through the crowds at the Shibuya crossing or through the train station. Mayu was very friendly and knowledgeable and was able to... More

Mayu was our guide for the walking tour around Tokyo. She had an in-depth knowledge of the city and was able to point out loads of things we would not otherwise have seen as tourists. While the walking pace was fast she was also very generous with her time and very patient in answering our questions. I would thoroughly recommend... More

An excellent way to see many sights the one day, especially the inner fish market which would be rather difficult to navigate and understand without a guide. Mayu was an excellent guide, with very good English. She was also flexible, changing course to fit our interests.

We booked the night out tour for our second night in Tokyo. I thought it would include stops at various bars/locations to show us places we might want to go back to on our own. There really wasn't anything unique to nightlife. And other than dinner, we walked from 3:30 - 9:30! We're super-active, so it wasn't the walking... it's... More

Dear Tokyo Visitor. Thank you very much for your feedback on our small group Toyko afternoon/evening tour. I am really happy that you liked your guide. However it is so sad to hear that the tour was not what you had expected, we apologise for that. As this is a group tour with people from ages 8 to 80 joining... More

I did the night tour on my second night in Tokyo and it was a great way to get a feel for where everything was and work out where I wanted to come back to another day We started at 3.30pm at Meiji Shrine and ended at 9.30pm in Roppongi where some us chose to go up the Roppongi Hills/Mori... More

Staying in Shinagawa / Gotanda

Neighbourhood Profile
Shinagawa / Gotanda
In Shinagawa, an office district shares space with luxury residential buildings and the scene is constantly changing with rapid development. Ikedayama park and Togoshi park are great places to see beautiful traditional Japanese gardens with ponds, as well as enjoy the changing seasons. Shinagawa was a post and a port town during the Edo era and the lavish old Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples at Shinagawa and Ebara are very popular. It's a great place to get in touch with the old Edo atmosphere on a pleasure boat cruising along the canal. The neighboring area around Gotanda station is a study in modern contrasts filled with unique restaurants and a lively nightlife.
