About
Back under private ownership, as of December 2022... Stonier was one of the first wineries to be established in the region in 1978 by Brian Stonier and his family at Merricks, on the southern edge of Victoria's Mornington Peninsula. Stonier planted Chardonnay in 1978, followed by Pinot Noir in 1982. Stonier and the Mornington Peninsula have subsequently built their world-renowned reputation on these two varieties, as the region’s cool maritime climate makes for the perfect canvas to bring these varieties to life. Stonier's dedication to crafting premium Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and sparkling wine has never been stronger. At only an hour’s drive from Melbourne’s CBD, this region is a popular weekend destination, with many gourmet dining options and boutique accommodation on offer. The Stonier Cellar Door is open seven days a week for wine tastings and sales. Bookings can be made online or by phone.

Popped in Saturday afternoon. Walked into tasting room which is large and greeted by staff member. When we were told the tasting fee of $10 each applied and wouldn’t be taken off any purchases, that didn’t go down particularly well. I understand times are tough for everyone, including customers!!!!! Cellar door tastings used to be a means of promoting wines, but today is more a means of profit. By joining the Stonier Club you get 15% off purchases, so we did.
We then popped next door to the Merricks General Food/Wine store for a look and enjoyed a FREE tasting of some lovely red wines and walked out with a few bottles.

We attended here as a first stop for a tasting for a private winery tour we had organised. The staff were very helpful and were able to answer all questions. At the same time they were able to give us privacy to catch up as a group and take our time doing our tasting. This was a seated tasting which made it relaxed and not rushed. The wine also was delicious. I would definitely go back when up that way again.

This is a comfortable cellar door and I found the staff to be friendly, knowledgeable and engaging.
They have a sparkling, three chardonnays and three pinot noirs on tasting. The reserve wines in particular stood out. I will certainly come back here when I’m next on the peninsula.

Stopped by for a tasting - couldn’t decide which Pinot Noir to buy as they were all nice. Finally settled on the ‘Estate’ Pinot and their Reserve.
It was quiet and air conditioned on a very warm day; the lady ‘serving’ us was very nice, friendly and informative, without pressure.

I visited this winery a few weekends ago and was very pleasantly surprised by their wines that are only available at cellar door.
Their sparkling was one of the best I have tasted considering it is not Champagne..
The staff are very knowledgeable about the wines and also about the surrounding area which is very pleasant.
Their wines are decently priced and not overboard like some of the wineries on the Peninsula.

As one of the 1st wineries to set up in Mornington Peninsula, this cool climate region is producing some top quality Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and bubbles.
If you love your Pinot Noir, do head over to Stonier our join their club to get yourself limited allocation of some of their single vineyard selection.

If you like your wine made from the two best grape varieties in the world (in my view!) - i.e. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir - then Stonier is a must visit for you! We had a great tasting here. Three lovely chardonnays and three pinots. All fabulous wines. Well worth a visit.

Stonier makes some very good chardonnay and pinot noir wines. The cellar door is spacious and welcoming. The staff were knowledgeable and provided good advice about their wine. The pinot varieties were very good.
