There are quite a few hikes to do here ranging from 1 to 5 hours. Be sure to bring lots of water and a camera. There are lots of birds and when the sun goes down you can spot rabbits and foxes. The mines are nice as well. Every area has a different look. Check for ticks after!

The Air, The Views, everything in such a perfect setting, in such a perfect place. Someone designed this land and placed every tree, rock, water hole, village in a most strategical magical beautiful setting.

We spent a couple of days in Mertola and could explore this peaceful natural park with kids. The river is great for canoeing trips also for children. The park and landscape is wonderful and easy to hike. We enjoyed our stay in mid of April a lot and it was always very warm already (more than 25C degree).

December-January is one of the most peaceful times of the year. Great place to walk and take time to refresh yourself; Fewer Tourist and little traffic. The area is full of wildlife and birds. I love just walking some of the backroads. You can hike their trails but dress for the weather. It is chilly in the mornings and evenings... More

There are five designated walks in the park, and we planned for one of them. The the automn came - meaning heavy rain - so we will have to walk some other time, but we drove around instead while we enjoyed the earth coloured scenery. This will probably also look stunning in the spring.

A charming small riverside village with a little ferry across to Spain and a lovely river beach. We ate at a new Indian restaurant called Shiva which served excellent food in spotless surroundings. The host was very friendly and added to our experience. We will return.

This was well worth the drive from Tavira Portugal. The approaching drive was incredible, and the views from the top of the walled city even better. Take a trip back in time, and go the Mertola.

Guadiana national park is famous for its variety of birdlife. At one point there were 2 eagles and no less than 32 vultures in the air above us. Also bee eaters, orioles, 4 species of lark, Montague's harriers, little bustard and 23 other species.
