The setting of this palace is exquisite with the snow covered mountains in the dustance. We had a very good guided tour around the palace helped by the fact that the weather was good. We learnt common features in Minoan palaces having visited Knossos also....More

If you visit this place, possibly on the way to laid-back Matala, you should make sure to bring or hire a guide to tell you the full story of the two periods or Minoan culture whih sprouted here ages ago. It is a pleasure to...More

Visited in a small group tour with an excellent guide. It helped to have visited Knossos and to have seen a drawing of what it might have looked like because the layout is pretty much the same. I much preferred Phaistos to Knossos. Much quieter,...More

This Minoan Palace is in a beautiful setting of a plain surrounded by distant mountains. There is a slope up the entrance and a shop and cafe up some steps. There are also steps into the site, which is somewhat uneven, making it difficult, but...More

Alongside Knossos this is a must visit place. Full of culture and archaeological history. Bit confusing to get orientated as to what’s where, but never the less an important piece of ancient culture/ history.

Despite the fact that the interpretation of this place is based on Sir Arthur Evans imagination it is an inspiring place to visit, ignore his theories and form your own. This is the second largest palace complex on the island and possibly the best preserved...More

By far the most beautiful minoan site on crete- spectacular setting, atmosphere, lots of intact features and good on site interpretation. Take time to linger and enjoy- ideal for later afternoon or early morning.

Well worth a visit. More interesting than Knossos. It takes a little time to understand the layout (the maps on site could be much clearer), but one does get a real appreciation of the grandeur of the palace.

I wasn't sure what to expect since I only read it wasn't as big and touristic as Knossos... But I really enjoyed walking through the remains. Some of the houses/rooms seem very well intact and with some imagination it comes to live. Would definitly recommend!

Original, beautiful, mind blowing. You can really FEEL the palace and spirit of the place and the life here. Unlike other Minonan sites this one has nothing ‘made up’ by others imagination which may or may not be accurate. It is less visited than Knossos...More
