- Sirenita123Coventry, United Kingdom1,841 contributionsExceptional stay in Calella de PalafrugellAmazing coves, views and beautiful walks along the coastal path. Various beaches to choose from and they all kept beautifully clean. Safe area for swimming on all beaches. A variety of restaurants on the beachfront with delicious range of seafoods or tapas. Fabulous ice-cream shop too. No high-rise hotel and the feel of a real Spanish town - so refreshing. My first visit to this area but I’m returning next year too. Highly recommended.Visited September 2023Travelled with familyWritten November 15, 2023
- Connector490045944752 contributionsA perfect day! This was a perfect day trip from Barcelona. It is a beautiful beach with coves and rocks to play on! We had the most delicious seaside meal, and then walked all the way up to the lighthouse in the next village. We only wished that we had planned to spend a night here to enjoy the slower pace of a seaside town!Visited April 2024Travelled with familyWritten May 10, 2024
- AlbertSalichsManresa, Spain24,028 contributionsVery nice beaches and views of the townPlayas de Calella (Calella Beach) are located in this typical town of Costa Brava Region, in the North of Catalonia. We came here on a hike from Palamós and we could see all beaches of this town. Really, the views of the coast and the town are very nice, especially if you follow the coastal line. Very nice beaches. We came here at the end of January and this part was full of people (we arrived at lunch hour and all restaurants were full), so in summer it will be crazy. - PSM51Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom102 contributionsSlighlty more Up Market SpainBeautiful area , lido walk from Calella to Lafranc with nice restaurants and cafes. In May some were closed weekdays as it was early season but weekends most open. Calau restaurant very much worth a visit , skewered Tapas, such a variety to sample and pay by skewer/cocktail sticks at end. Plenty of ice cream shops too ! Very clean and feels safe even late at night. Small beach areas which I can imagine will be busy at peak season. Walk along to Lafranc for watersports and slightly bigger beach. Not an "English Breafast " sign , or British beers sign anywhere , unspoiled, slightly up market part of Spain. Some lovely looking apartments available overlooking the sea , friends found theirs on airb&b .Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten June 7, 2024

This was my 3rd visit last time was 7 yrs ago.
This place has declined since, it appears dirty and it’s such a shame because it was a lovely resort. Large groups of men and also younger which can be unsettling when out and about in the evening.
Having said that the beach is still very nice. Plenty of shops and bars. The Church is beautiful.
However Calella has lost its charm for me .

It is a beach that I do not like because it has fine stone and it is impossible to walk along the shore. Smoking is forbidden on the beach but neither controlled nor supervised. Most people smoke. One afternoon we had to leave because there was a group of people HHG three hookahs and it was impossible to breathe. And so every day. It's a beach I won't return to

The views were beautiful we took tons of photos
Charming, typical...
Maybe in the middle of summer it is complicated to park? But there we easily found a free place so as not to waste anything!
The water is crystal clear.... A bath is essential!
Stop by without hesitation, it's worth a look
I recommend and I will come back for sure 😍👍

Beautiful beach, superb view, typical houses. Small, quiet village. Beachside restaurants. To do out of season. !!! otherwise too many people, and not pleasant. I recommend for a weekend.
Lots of coves around. To be done on foot, bike or boat.

Calella is a very pleasant resort, not luxurious but with plenty charm and character, and friendly locals.
As well as the main strip going up away from the beach was a very long street which split into two at the church square. These were littered with a variety of shops, bars and cafes. In the evenings there was usually some form of entertainment in the town - festivals, parades, music and dance, street parties.
A long walk to the north takes you to Pineda which is worth a visit.
An hours journey by comfortable train along the coast to Barcelona is a must.

As part of a day tour from Barcelona, our guide took us to this azure and turquoise and sand beach on the Costa Brava.
The sight of the coast literally took our breath away!
May seemed to be a good time to enjoy the beach without it being stuffed with sun worshippers. The water was calm and there were restaurants literally next to the walkways so diners could enjoy the view.

Hi, I am planning on visiting Calella end of April first week in May..travelling alone as I do...can you advise me re public transport..the apartment I have seen and like is in neighbouring Lafranc....are there buses...I do not want to hire a car this time...and dont want to walk miles as 69 and bit of arthritis..though reasonable distances fine....
Also I note you say beach is pebbly are there other local sandy beaches...easily accessible???
Written February 2, 2020
Lafranc has sandy beaches.calella has pebbles but is a pretty resort with more going on .
We prefered calella.nice short coast path to lafranc.
Not sure of public transport.
Enjoy the tapas!

Looking for an apartment or condo with easy beach access since we have small children and don't want to walk across any streets or down steps... I don't know the area at all but we wanted to book beach front, on beach itself. Is this even possible in calella? thanks!
Written May 22, 2018
Most villages are steep, have steps to the beach or a broad walk. Llafranc would be the pic but its hotels alongbthe front. There is very little traffic and it would be easy with kids. It is a bit more expensive and quieter than other spots but good for kids.

Hi is there somewhere local to buy an inflatable bed and an umbrella?
Written April 9, 2018
One street behind near the parking. Plenty choices of Made in China stuff.

Ci sono spiagge attrezzate a Calella? Se sì, quanto costano approssimativamente gli ombrelloni? Grazie in anticipo per le info
Written November 20, 2017
