The people on the information desk were charming and helpful. The leaflet to guide you round is informative without being too wordy.
The lady in the shop guided us to a local cafe - which we would not have found on our own and a cool drink was much needed. Highly recommend the bakery in the town - just up on the road above the car park too.

Wasn't expecting too much from this but genuinely it was well worth the visit with an entry fee of around €6.

Whilst the Abbey has lots to see, including various saints whose 'bits' are on display near the alter, it also has a number of exhibitions in rooms around the quad. Wasn't much interested by the comic display but the artifact display and open air theatre at the rear were good especially as the latter had a number of shady benches.

Plan for around an hour.

One of the two historical things we found to do in Caunes Minervois. The architecture is very beautiful and worth the visit, both for inside and outside in the gardens. Make sure to go underneath the abbey to see the original foundation, mostly just for the history of seeing stone laid down 1,200 years ago.

Not a lot to see in this 9th century abbey but worth a walk through. Don't bother trying to get information from the tour office in the Abbey - go to the Caunes-Minervois Tour Office nearby for much friendlier service.

It is pleasant, worth the visit, but sparse on the thing(s) on view.
It is a most pleasant setting, well appointed but sparse, a sort of historical missed opportunity, and much more could have been made of the historical wealth that the story of this place has to contibute to our understanding of its history.
The designers of this itteration should have tried harder to make this place an active contributor to modern understanding.

worth a visit to see the beautifully restored Abbaye. Historic - dates back to the 8th century. Parts are Roman though with preserved crypts and pavements.

In the last ten years, the Cloister has been beautifully restored and in summer is frequently used for art exhibitions and occasional concerts. It forms a wonderful setting for such events. The Abbey itself is a traditional Parish church, with a wealth of the red marble for which Caunes is famous. Te non-traditional feature is the access to the undercroft, under the Church itself, where there can be seen the original pavements and lower walls of the first church building.

This abbey dates back to the 8th century. We were surprised of how beautiful the inside is, but after discovering about the nearby marble quarries, it all made sense. This site is definitely worth a visit
