Even though I’m an atheist, this is breathtaking.
We went for a Christmas advent, it was beautiful, it wasn’t very cold. We didn’t go inside since we are locals and have seen it, but we had a long walk around the old town with our baby.
I wouldn’t recommend this for older people since the steps are slippery in front of the church and you must walk there. No cars near.

This lovely church dates back to the 1300's it is located in old town Labin, within a beautiful square surround by very in keeping houses the Schampicchio family palace is next to it, the interior is quite ornate definitely worth a visit during a walk through the cobbled streets of the old town, for lunch we recommend a visit to Rumore, for the bestest pizza, (see review).

Everything about this church is a delight from the external architecture to the baroque interior. Well worth a visit inside. Lots of steps hereabouts so totally wheelchair and pram unfriendly!

I don’t know what Croatia are doing, but it is lovely to see they have full churches! We visited one Sunday and it was great to see. The church is well maintained and in a pleasant alley near the main square.

You walk up the old winding street to find the church, proud and grand. On entering we were impressed, the marble altars and the paintings are just lovely.

Three-nave church of Blessed Virgin Mary’s Birth built in 1336 on the foundations of the small church from the 11th century. It was reconstructed several times. The last reconstruction was in 1993. A Venetian lion with a sphere in his mouth – a symbol of Labin recognizing the Venetian government – was put on the front facade in 1604.
By the end of that century, in 1688, a baroque statue of senator Antonio Bollani, a combatant against Turks, was put on the same facade. The bust is one of the most beautiful examples of the secular sculptural art of Istria in the 17th century. Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary’s Birth is decorated with six marble altars. One of them has St.Justin’s relics brought here from Rome in 1664. Main altar and altarpiece with six figures of Blessed Virgin Mary, St.Pauline and Saints: Justin, Sergio, Julian, Tom and Jacob. The author is Natale Schiacione from Dalmatia, the much more valuable altarpiece by the altar of the Madonna of Carmel from the 17th century is believed to be done by the famous painter Jacopo Negriti, better known as Palma the Younger. Valentin Lukas, a young Labin painter from the 19th century; is the author of the painting featuring the Stages of the Cross.
