Clearly an important place and the tour was well executed, the biggest issue for us is that it all in Spanish and while it had some placards in English all the dialogue was Spanish. If you are not a Spanish speaker this may be just...More

It's a large (very large) monastery, with lots of chambers and rooms. It seems you have to go with a tour, but for some reason we ended up inside and we were able to explore it on our own. It's quite packed with people and...More

The one on the hill (Suso) is more mystical and older. Make sure to visit both. There are other monasteries in the area that are also worth a visit if you have more time. Definitely a nice break from all the wineries of La Rioja.

1 hour tour. I assume the guide was very knowledgeable but not overly engaging. Opulent church, lots of gold. Perhaps we were over it

This is a fascinating visit, and well worth the €6 for the guided tour. An hour walking through the story of the monastery, the religious order and the languages of Spain.

I had mixed feeling with my visit. On one hand, I was there, where the first written Spanish(and Vasque) words have been documented. On the other hand, I felt disappointed by the building, and the tour guide. The stories described by the guide were loaded...More

We visited this place during our Summer holiday where we visited some Unesco sites in Northern Spain. This Monastery is wonderful . Shame that the Tour is in Spanish only and the English leaflet that you get does not tell you enough. Still worth a...More
