More
The highest dune in Europe, a unique landscape with an incredible panoramic view over the ocean, forest and Arcachon Bay but also and more importantly, a living, natural space that needs to be looked after and protected. Since December 2007, the Syndicat Mixte de la Grande Dune du Pilat has been working to protect and preserve this national piece of heritage that belongs to us all. From the top of this giant (109 meters high, 2,7 kilometers long, 500 meters wide), you can see many remarkable sites of the region.

Easy parking with various cafes shops on site . We paid €4 for about an hour. Steps take you to the top then glide through the sand on the way down!

Have had the chance to see the Dune on the boat which was not as spectacular as going to the top of the dune on foot. The walk up the dune was not as difficult as I have anticipated and the fine silky sand was...More

How long should I allow for Dune du pilat? I am taking my two kids aged 10 and 13 . We are interested in sand boarding or any other activities... How do I find if this is offered and do I need to book in advance?

About 15 minutes up depending how fit you are. Dune ridge is about 2.5km long so allow at least 45 mins to get to the end. Only do this if you want to. Great views can be had only 5 minutes from the top. Take some water... More
