About
Located along the Atlantic coast, Lake Leon is a pond formed by several small rivers. Its particularity lies in the fact that almost half of its surface is in the Nature Reserve area. The lake has a beach on which swimming is supervised from July 1 to August 31 from 12 noon to 7 p.m. Many nautical and leisure activities are also available (pedal boat, electric boat, canoe, paddle, sailing, fishing, mini-golf, etc.). In order to allow access to swimming for all, the Municipality of Léon makes a beach wheelchair available to users. It is available on request at the lifeguard station. A place of life and entertainment, the Lake hosts many festivities every year, from spring to autumn: July 14 fireworks, local producers' markets, Scène O lac, concerts, etc.

.

this is the sort of place that Enid Blyton's children - Famous Five or Secret Seven - would have taken their holidays if allowed out of Blighty.

It's idyllic for families of all ages.

The Lake has a small town - Leon - on its southern shore, with supermarket, loads of restaurants, and a daily market in summer. On its northern shore is the village of Vielle, with campsites mainly.

Both can be reached easily by bicycle as they are on or near the Lo Camin de Hè and its offshoots.

The shores have walks on both sides, as well as cycle paths. There are picnic tables galore. There are sandy beaches of all sizes, and the lake itself, unlike any lake you have been in in the UK, has pale sand underneath. Not a sign of squelchy mud anywhere, and with no tide, no current, and only knee-deep for the first 100 yards, beautifully safe for children.

On the lake you can hire canoes, silent electric boats (lovely!), pedaloes. You can also go on the Courant de Huchet boat trips where sturdy rowers do the hard work for you.

Cycling, walking.paddling, lazing - oh and I forgot the children's playgrounds! Plus bars and restaurants.

What's not to like in a lovely spot where tradition still reigns.

The area is bursting with things for a family to do, but these have to be hunted out. The lake itself is divided between two communities, Leon and Saint Giron. Each side has its own Plage and therefore their own activities. The Leon plage has a wonderful crazy golf, windsurfing hire and great pedalos. The St Giron side has a better restaurant (Lac du Terraces) and offers not only pedalo hire, but also lessons in windsurfing, catamaraning and other "sailing" opportunities. Its also possible to hire Kayaks and paddle up river.

We are not ones for spending all day sitting in and around a pool but this place has so much more to offer so for the fist time we did. We started the day with a boat trip on the courant d'huchet, then ate our leisurely french lunch in the picnic area. We had a walk around looking at all the different water craft while the children (12 and 10) had their first taste of freshwater splashing around in the lake. We decided on a toboggan pedalo with slide and spent a very pleasant hour pedalling around and zooming off the back. It was also my first experience of fresh water (at 48) and I loved it! The boys had energy left for a bungee trampoline then we had a gorgeous coupe (choice of around 20) in the nearby restaurant. There was a good mini golf course too but we will have to do that another time.

Fabulous lake location for families especially with young children. The 15 yr olds will like it too with a range of water based activities. Shallow lake, wind surfing , canoeing, paddle boarding and range of sailing ops including mini Cats for the more adventurous. Kool beach side cafe. In close proximity of the lovely village of Leon with Friendly locals, great food and the ocean 6 k away.

Myself and my family visited lac de leon twice on our holiday this year. We all really enjoyed our visits there. We went on paddle boats, canoes, speed boats and a slide boat that were really enjoyable and reasonable prices. There is also an adventure park beside the lake which was great fun. The only thing to be aware of is that the lake isint all the same depth. When we rented out the slide boat my younger sister couldn't reach the ground and my dad had to jump in. He lost his sun glasses. However, that was our own fault! We would definitely recommend to visit lac de leon if you are around the area.

We have kayaked across Soustons Lake and little river, we have Kayaked from one of the launch points on the D652 .. and this is the one we keep coming back to with friends .. now the third time. Its a out and back loop -- so no waiting for the transport back, and you can turn up and go ... the route is safe with an easy/fun rapid.

The booking office in near the canoes and boats down from the beach itself.

This is a very large lake surrounded by attractive, very flat countryside that is great for cycling, walking or even discovering by car. There are various access points for beaches, water sports etc and Leon is the best town to use as a base.
