This place is great. I've visited a couple times and I'll definitely be going again. This house is full of so many surprises. Any time someone tells me they're traveling to the Pittsburgh area, I tell them they must visit the Bayernhof Museum!
For some reason, I thought I was going to a museum of musical INSTRUMENTS. Ok... But NO!! And this was SO much cooler!! There's a neat story, the house itself is worth visiting, but then all of the musical...DEVICES?? I really, really enjoyed this.
Excellent entertaining tour. Took family from Chicago to visit. Jim was knowledgeable, funny and friendly. All of us enjoyed ourselves. Will tell all my friends of this hidden treasure of Pittsburgh.
Plan to visit again with other friends and family.
I heard about this museum from a friend who got myself a reservation. I had only known of the Bayernhof Museum as a music instrument museum. In reality, it’s also a house museum. The docent did a great job explaining not only the history of...More
This 1980's "castle" high on a bluff, has a commanding view of the Allegheny River Valley. The decor is over the top and eccentric. The collection of music machines, some well over 100 years old and the only remaining examples, are very interesting.
The tour has three intertwined segments...the house, the collections, and the people responsible for bringing them together. Our guide was marvelous at revealing each with a flair that had our whole group, ranging in age from 12 to 70+, highly entertained. Highly recmmend!
I've lived in O'Hara Twp. for over 20 years and finally made my first visit to the Bayernhof Museum....and what a treat it was! This house is amazing, the music machines are amazing, and Jim, our tour guide was amazing! I actually cannot wait to...More

I was visiting Pittsburgh and my friend suggested the Bayernhof Museum. She mentioned it was a music box museum so I imagined small music boxes in an elegant old home. WOW! Words cannot describe this lesser known and amazing museum.
The Bayernhof requires reservations and...More
