This vineyard is beautifully situated among the vines beneath the "Dentelles de Montmirail" only a short drive outside of Vacqueyras. It is one of the most idyllically situated domaines amongst many I have visited in France. I first visited this family run vineyard 20 years ago with my young family and the memories of its warm welcome, fine wine and beautiful setting had remained with me until my eventually buying a house in Provence since when I have taken the opportunity to revisit the vineyard on several occasions.
On my first revisit in 2009, I was greeted by one of the two Vache brothers who are the 5th generation of the long line of Archimbaud et Vache families who have run the vineyard. After a long and enjoyable tasting and discussion of his wines, he insisted that he call and reintroduce me to his grandmother who had served me so many years before.
They have a wide range of wine from both their Vacqueyras and Gigondas vineyards and all are good with the La Tour Sarrazine from their Gigondas vines in my opinion the finest, One of their secrets is the sweet Grenat Noble made from late harvested Granache which is only made in the best years and then only in the smallest amounts. Don't be worried that they do not give it a year, it is very fine if necessarily pricey. We have shared it with friends who immediately want to know where we found it. Should I tell them with so little to go around?
They also speak English well and without a fuss if your french fails you.

One of my favourite domaines in the southern Rhone... M. Vache is engaging and friendly and the wines are simply stunning... both the Vacqueyras and Gigondas are beautiful and will last forever.....

Having enjoyed the Clos de Cazaux wine at the Hotel Montmirail, we sought out the vineyard. Although busy working, the owner gladly conducted a tasting with us. Fantastic wines, very reasonably priced for the quality. A must visit.

Cazaux produce good wines - some of our favourites. Unfortunately our recent tasting was so appalling that we wont be buying them again. We arrived at the Domaine just before 12.00 - it is open all day. However we were greeted by a frosty and dour male (about 40) who could hardly bare to serve us and gave the impression that it was all too much trouble for him. I would say the most appalling service we experienced during 3 weeks in France. His attitude did change somewhat after we spent E250. We have visited Cazaux many times but not recently. However there are many good producers in Vacqueyras, search them out and avoid Cazaux. They don't deserve to succeed.

This is well worth putting on your list for wine tasting and taking a couple of bottles home. They winery is just outside the village of Vacqueyras and easy missed as the sign is only visible if you approach from the village. We had a personally tutored tasting from a wonderful gentleman who embarrassingly I cannot recall his name. However he spoke excellent english and indulged us in practising some of our french. They make a range of white, red and sweet wines and I would throughly recommend the white 'Vieilles Vignes' and the red 'Grenat Noble'. They have an annual open day in May that I'd love to attend.

Very welcoming and friendly, the sister-in-law oversees the tasting room where you can sample many of their delicious Vacqueyras and Gigondas cuvées. Beautifully situated in the fields south of Vacqueyras, it's a little tricky to find but well worth the visit.
Even during the harvest season, they are open, but it is best to call ahead of time.
