It’s a nice walk to get to (about 1.2km up hill but there is also shuttle bus for €1.50 up the hillside), but by walking we felt we saw more and could appreciate the ancient layout of the hilltop town (now ruined) associated to the amphitheater.
The amphitheater itself is incredibly well preserved and the beautiful vistas from it’s perch on top of Mount Barbaro show why it was built where it is.
Beware of the parking scam; when you get to the roundabout just beside the site, ignore the ‘gentlemen’ directing you to go back down the hill to their parking location and use their shuttle bus. Instead, simply drive around to the last exit (it’s a small roundabout), and drive a 100m or so further up the hill to the free parking on the left.

The ancient city of the Elimians is a must visit site. It is a little remote and walking shoes are required as is water when hot. The theatre is amazing, including the views, even if the rest of the site is a little bit dissapointing due to the fact it is over grown. Information is in Italian and English.

This fabulous archeological site is an astoundingly well preserved Greek temple perched on a hilltop with a panoramic view of the countryside. You walk up a hill and suddenly you are transported back in time. We didn't want to leave. It is hot with no shade.

Very nicely preserved and stunningly beautiful view from the theatre. Whole site worth roaming with other important ruins of structures.

During our trip around Sicily we visited the archeological site at Segesta before any other one. We loved it, both the temple and the theatre. When we saw the theatre in Taormina and Syracuse we regretted not having spent more time and taken more pictures of the Segesta one. It's the only one that they left alone in its original state, the only one that shows its features, the only one that has not been covered in boards for a show or has a roof on top of it. It's my favourite by a long shot. The view from the steps towards the sea is a memory you'll take with you forever. Be prepared to a long and steep walk uphill to get there, or take the bus at the base of the hill. It's worth the walk.

If you are walking it is a bit of a climb for the over seventies however there is a bus that goes up about every 15 minutes. It is well worth the visit as this is a large theatre with backs to seats in the top row - something I have not seen before. Walking up there are many ruins of buildings and a church to see.

All steps and slopes leading to the Theatre are so well worth it! The view is absolutely fantastic, everything well preserved and full of good info. We loved it.

Our toddler fell asleep in the car, so we were looking for something within an hour from our location so that he could sleep the whole drive. We were so lucky that this was the spot. The structures are so well taken care of and restored that you can really feel what it would have been like to attend a show. I opted to walk the way up to the top (a bus is an option) and couldn't believe that 4000 people from the surrounding areas would make the trek and then hike up the hill to see the show. When our little guy woke up, my husband did the hike and he and I shared a gelato and arancini at the gift shop and played with the stray dogs. It is not a stroller friendly spot, so plan accordingly.

This theatre and the temple are both in the Segusta archaeological park.
Once you get to the park, buy your entrance ticket, then there's another bus (€1.50) that takes you to the theatre at the top of the hill.
The hilltop theatre is impressive, and has great views.
