what a surprise while driving this rural road along the Saint Lawrence to discover the ship Bras d'Or in the back yard of this very good small museum. Well worth the admission to see the 3 floors of exhibits. What a great combination of an old and a new building.

Left the four lane highway and chased down a historical plague in nearby Berthier-sur-mer; stayed on the meandering road that brought us to L’Islet-sur-mer and popped into this museum. Admission cost was $15/adult but it gave you access to everything onsite and is considered a season’s pass if you wished to revisit. The Canadian Coast Guard Icebreaker was pretty cool to wander through (kids would love it!). We only managed to see it and the second floor in a two hour span. The main building would be considered handicap accessible but not the outdoor ships/displays.

Great overall museum if you love ships and ship history. Heavy on the French here, but that's not a big issue, as all displays are bilingual. Took the tour if the hydrofoil, and the icebreaker. Icebreaker tour was self guided and was the real meat if the place. Self guided, I explored the ship with a electronic guide to answer any questions I might have, which has was included in the ticket. Loved gherkin lack of up sell. Buy the ticket, get it all. Ship enthusiasts should really enjoy this.

The reception was not too friendly with an English speaking guest other than that it was fine. We have to reserve a tour for the both and boat model room. Being ahort on time we opted for the boat. Highly recommended for history buffs and boat lovers.

This is an interesting museum. In addition to the information inside, one can walk out behind the building and that's where most of the exhibits are located. There's an old icebreaker, an experimental vessel that used to be in the Canadian navy, and another vessel. One can board these and tour them. It's a museum that's worth seeing if you're ever touring around Quebec.
