Worth the climb but pace yourself

Since I climbed with a group I had to push myself and made the climb in 12 minutes, but I do not recommend that pace unless you are young and fit. Once up there, I took my time to take in the wonderful view from the lookout tower. Lots of people competed for space up there. You can also buy... More

Went here on a day trip from Medellin. Enjoyed the challenge of getting to the top. It is 740 steps and every 25 or so the number is painted on a step so you know how much further you have to go. Crowded at the top of course but the views were amazing and everyone is in a good mood.... More

A half day trip to Guatape near Medellín is a unique experience, accessible by private car or public transportation if you go by private car you need to pay for parking at the entrance and additional 18,000 thousand pesos per adult to enter to the monument that is a big stone with more than 750 stairs you can stop in... There are 659 steps. Don't overestimate your abilities. You are already starting out from 7000' above sea level. The climb up is another 400'. The air is thin. Climb first, eat after. Now the review. The view was fabulous. There are vendors selling food and souvineers at the top. Enjoy!

The climb seems daunting when you stare up at the rock but it's really not that bad. The ascenders and descenders are separated and each have their own stairway. The view is beautiful, as it seems in pictures. Make sure to go to the very top, requires a few more stairs on a cramped spiral stairway but you are rewarded... More

Going to Guatapé and seeing la Piedra del Penol was one of my favorite things do to outside of Medellin. I would definitely recommend staying a night here in one of the towns cute hostels so you have time to both climb the rock, see the cute town, go on a boat trip, go kayaking and just feel the vibe... You have to go there while being in Medellin. I recommend to stay for 1-2 nights in Guatape to enjoy the city, lake and La Piedra!

When in Gustavo, this is a must-do. Climbing the stairs was easier than we expected and although it's all pretty commercial, the view makes up for it. Even though we had some clouds, we still enjoyed it very much.
