Although not as good as Jodhpur fort in our opinion, it is worth going if you do a tour of Rajasthan. You can go up there by elephant if you want. There are many interesting things but no magnificent rooms as the radjahs moved to a new palace downtown in the 18th century.

Tourists visiting Jaipur will probably have this on their list of things to see and it is certaunly worth a visit. Irrespective of how you get there (elephant or on foot) the fort itself offers great views, and a guide can explain the history, so that you can easily spend 90 minutes there for an entry fee of Rs500 (£4).

You can't come to Jaipur without stopped here. We were driven to the bottom of the Fort and dropped off to join the queue for the elephant ride up to the fort entrance. I was nervous of this activity as I wasn't sure whether this is ethical for the elephants. However I was consistantlly reassured that the elephants lives have... More

Of course, everyone goes to the Amber Fort while in Jaipur, and I knew we'd be no different and even though I had seen many photos of it, I blown away by it's beauty and size. It really is incredibly impressive. We rode the elephants up to the fort, which was a rather uncomfortable, but memorable experience. I could have... More

This was a huge royal palace and probably my favorite out of the many we visited. Our guide managed to get us into some restoration areas which were fascinating. Some of the main areas got a little clogged with large tour parties. The photo opportunities especially from hgh levels are fantastic.I could have spent even more than the 3 hours... More

Amber fort is one of the famous fort in Jaipur and the sheesh mahal (glass palace) is an awesome treat to your eyes. It takes minimum two hours to visit the fort and it is worth it.

Absolutely a must see, fort is in incredible condition and a grand scale. Elephant rides up the hill are a bit naff, avoid. If you've got the legs for it and can handle heights, Troy up the stairs opposite the fort along the wall for a break from the crowds and an amazing view.

Amber fort is located in Amer, Jaipur around 14km from the city. We can hire online cars from the city which charges a bit more than the usual trips because of the hilly terrain. Small refreshments are available at the base of the fort, don't forget to buy something or else you will be exhausted over the top where only... More

The amber fort itself is amazing but I was heartbroken to see elephants being ridden. Tons of tourists riding elephants from the bottom to the top whilst the handlers were kicking the elephants in the head and hitting them hard with wooden poles. So sad to see. Other than this the fort itself was very beautiful and worth a visit.... More
