- Gary ORed Lodge, United Kingdom170 contributionsA lovely cream tea.We stopped by here after seeing the windmill on the TV last year. The small cafe was very busy but we managed to get a table. It appeared that there was a shortage of staff as someone serving was not familiar with all aspects of the service. However, we didn’t wait too long and had a cream tea which was excellent. We also visited the bakery opposite which had a limited choice of cakes available. We would probably visit again if in the area but it is somewhat out of the way to find.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten May 1, 2024
- Rachij60Southampton, United Kingdom8 contributionsA FANTASTIC FIND 🍰🍥What a fantastic find. It was an absolute gem. We did the 'Make & Bake' and whilst our Bircham Buns were cooking we climbed the Windmill and walked the garden. After a lovely coffee in the cafe we collected our buns, plus a lot of other delicious breads, cakes & savories. It was sooooooooo busy with local shoppers, visitors and passersby. Had such a great time and made memories. 😊Visited May 2024Travelled with familyWritten May 22, 2024
- titch62112The Royal Town of Sutton Coldfield, United Kingdom22 contributionsSuperb little placeSuperb day out. We thought it would just be a quick trip, but no, the children enjoyed it very much. They made bread and much more. The bakery is scummy and great coffee in the café. Everywhere was spotless and so clean. Thank you, we will certainly pop to you again.Visited May 2024Travelled with familyWritten May 31, 2024
- JosieLeighton Buzzard, United Kingdom19 contributionsExcellent for familiesWe came just expecting to stay an hour or so but ended up spending several hours there was so much to enjoy and plenty for the children to do (age 4 and twins 11 months). We came on a weekday in term time so it wasn't overly busy. We visited the mill and some of us climbed to the top, some of us did the make and bake which was great for our 4 year old (and the baked rolls in different shapes turned out great and tasted lovely. We stayed for lunch and there were plenty of options for all ages. The food was quick and reasonably priced, and all very well done. The pasties were absolutely fantastic, the best we've had for a long time!). We ordered a variety of cakes/desserts to share and all were delicious no complaints at all. Staff were all really friendly and helpful. There was sandpit, swings, slide, playhouse and safe contained outdoor area for children to run around and play safely. Plenty of picnic benches and tables chairs to eat outdoor. Also a few animals for the children to see. Toilet facilities all clean and accessible too. Overall a fantastic family day out at somewhere authentic that isn't overpriced. Would come again if we are back in the area.Visited June 2024Travelled with familyWritten June 3, 2024
- GurgledurbGodalming, United Kingdom199 contributionsLovely spot for tea!Lovely windmill and owners/staff. We just came for tea and cake which was delicious, looked round a nice shop and sadly being late in the day the bakery was sold out but that’s probably a testament to the products. A great stop on our exploration of the area and thoroughly enjoyed tea outside in the sun under the windmill!Visited July 2024Travelled with friendsWritten July 5, 2024
- BYRON RDa Nang, Vietnam3 contributionsExcellent day out even on a rainy dayI have brought my family for a day trip and my 3 year old and 14 year loved it. The staff are amazing, prices very reasonable, the bread making experience was fun, the history and going up the mill was really interesting and they have really made an effort explaining how it all worked. The views are great and you can walk out on the outside. Even my 3 year old wanted to do that. We had chosen a rainy day but if it was dry they have a sand pit and slide etc to enjoy. Getting a 14 year off his gadgets and experience he even said that it was fun. The food is great with fresh bread, buns scones, cupcakes to buy. Nest time we are in this area we will definitely return .Visited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten July 16, 2024
- Julie K110 contributionsA little gem!We stayed a night here, it was quiet and so peaceful. The next morning we had breakfast at the on site restaurant which was lovely. The staff are friendly and the bread well let’s just say hubby went on for a loaf and came out with half the bakery. We didn’t do the windmill part simply because we had a dog with us. He was really happy as there was a tin of doggy treats on the table. I think the place is a little gem. We will definitely go back. The only slight negative for us at 42 pounds for one night seems a little steep. A weeks stay would cost as much as a self catering cottage. I’d go back just for the bakers!!Visited September 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten September 23, 2024

We stayed for 2 nights and the campsite is small and in some respects cute but the cleaning facilities really let it down for me. There are 2 showers with toilets inside that were dirty, they have a policy that you take in a floor mat for the shower and then put it in the cleaning bin, unfortunately people did not do this and left the wet dirty towels to just sit there by the shower all day, dust and dirt everywhere including toothpaste up the walls. It was this that let the campsite down for me. It looked run down and could defiantly do with a clean up. It cost about £40 a night but in all honesty there are far better campsites out there for the money with much better facilities. Sorry....
On the plus side the donuts were probably the best i have ever eaten and you can pay for your children to bake bread which was really sweet. We wouldn't stay here again.

I appreciate we have been through hard times, but having visited Bircham Windmill after a period of some time it was rather disappointing. Perhaps the owners have tried too hard to be all things to all people. There is no doubting the bread and cakes are very good, but the cafe is small and easily gets congested, the gift shop is really non existent, the seating area was scruffy, the whole site needs a rethink and general smartening up.

Before the lockdown we use to take our grandson there, we payed to go into the garden so he could feed and hold the rabbits and other small animals.
However when we went last week, it cost us £14 for two adults and one child to go into the garden and see a horse, a donkey and some sheep.
The tea room and bakery are still very good.

£16 to enter as two adults and a child for access to the windmill and gardens. We stayed about an hour and chose not to have a go at baking bread which is an extra charge. My teenage daughter wasn't able to climb further than the first ladder of the windmill as it was so steep and so my husband went alone. The windmill is obviously the highlight of a visit here. The cafe seemed busy and we did purchase some cakes and bread from the bakery on the ground floor of the windmill. Very young children and elderly would have trouble accessing the floors of the windmill. The garden was spacious and on a summer's day, would be nice for a cuppa and a cake. There are a few farm animals and also a hut with a tiny museum (three artefacts) about the windmill. I felt that the place was a little unkempt around the edges and it had so much potential to be a real visitor attraction. It was lovely to see the windmill but if you are unable to access the windmill ladders, then there isn't much to do other than have a cuppa. Still quaint though. The sails were not moving on the windmill considering it was so blowy it was a bit disappointing.

This was a wonderful find on our recent break in Norfolk. We were made to feel very welcome as we arrived on bikes in a torrential hailstorm. A member of staff came out to help us find cover for our bikes, offered to dry our cycling gloves and set up a table in another room as the cafe was full. The homemade quiche and soup of the day was lovely and there was a great assortment of tempting homemade cakes. Would definitely visit again if in the area, hopefully in better weather!

Nice spot to stop off for a coffee and a cake. They had a vegan option in the cafe including a chocolate muffin and they offer vegan milk so I had a hot chocolate. Friends had a sausage roll and a cornish pasty and they said they were both delicious! Would have been lovely to of had a vegan sausage roll or homemade cake!! They had a little shop where you could buy fresh bread and flour and souvenir bits.

We went as a group of 8. We started our visit eating at their café. The food was good and well priced. There are some gardens to look around, and a few animals in pens which was OK but they were a token gesture. The main attraction is the windmill. First things first, if you are not fully abled body I'm not sure I would attempt it. Basically it is a series of ladders to climb up, and the upper levels are quite cramped for headroom. The fun part was the outside platform you can walk around the circumference of the windmill. I do a lot of risky things and this was up there amongst the riskiest of them. I weigh around 88kg. The boards under my feet were creaking and I was expecting them to break at any moment. It was exhilarating to think about the risk I was taking. Like many others, I agree this place needs some serious work to restore it.

Very happy with the cafe which we have visited several times this year. For example the jacket potatoes are large potatoes, that have NOT been over baked or reheated, with a generous amount of side salad, and good fillings. Value for money is good , and the food is visually well presented on the plate. The teapot for two has more tea than we can drink.
The person (probably the owner?) in charge behind the counter, keeps the queue to order food and drink moving well. A good lunch time experience. Best cafe we know in West Norfolk. Recommended.

I’ve always loved Bircham Windmill having visited since I was little but this time I was more than dis-satisfied with a few things. Now this is only regarding the tea room and not the actual “windmill” experience itself. I wish to be honest I’d have turned around and gone elsewhere.
I asked if they could do fried bread instead of toast. Quite frankly what I would describe as a simple request and majority of places will do this quite happily. Bircham Windmill Tearooms was one of them places who quite adamantly said no we don’t. Which I was a bit thrown by, as I really fancied it. I almost changed my decision choice because of it but didn’t! We also didn’t want black pudding and mushrooms and didn’t get offered an alternative replacement which I think is bad customer service. Yes, maybe I could’ve suggested something however I feel after them declining my request of fried bread, anything else requested as a replacement may have been thrown back in myself.
The glasses we got given were filthy dirty. I mean filthy. Gritty and dirt at the bottom of them. At this point I didn’t want to make any more of a fuss so didn’t mention it but really not acceptable during these covid-present times.
Food itself was good. That was about it.

This is a nice place to stop for tea and cake. For a small amount you can climb the windmill, visit a few farm animals and even make bread. A pleasant place to while away a couple of hours
