We were travelling the Northern Peninsula, doing some hike camping in Gros Morne. We wanted a drive in campsite before we set off for L'Anse Aux Meadows, and a place to crash when we got back that wasn't hard to get to.
Shallow Bay Campground did not disappoint. At first, when we checked in, we were kind of bummed because the campsites are very close to one another. We explored the campsite once we set up camp and as we crossed through a wee forest we exited out onto the most beautiful beach I have seen in Newfoundland! gorgeous sand, wide open area... We were travelling for some couple time, and both looked at one another and said "we have to bring the kids back here someday!"
Showers are very new, there is WIFI at the same building , as well as a common room with a stove. Water is potable (we still filtered it because we have a hiking filter system and are fastidious) and the campfire boxes were clean. We were able to park across our site and have some privacy, and despite the cheek-to-jowl sites, it was quiet at night. There are Otentiks here to rent as well!
We ARE going to bring the kids back, and I think this is a great spot along the north part of Gros Morne to camp and explore from. Cow Head is nearby for restaurants and essentials.
Also? Showers after several days of hike camping in Gros Morne may have been the best thing ever. Just sayin'...

The beach is sandy and quite long. We walked for over five kilometres.a local told us that it is feasible to walk 7 or more klms to the sand dunes. Great spot to enjoy nature & fresh air. This area is part of the old mail road trail.

This is a top beach in NL. Very soft sand, shallow and protected so great for kids. It was very clean and mostly deserted. Excellent bathrooms and warm water foot rinse. The playground was under construction in June 2022. Can't wait to return!

we went to the beach as it was described as beautiful white sand beach and top 10 beaches. It was not. I was covered with dark stinky seaweed as far as the eye could see. Might want to try again in an other season otherwise a bit of a walk in not to bad and there are facilities that were not open due to shoulder season travel

Gorgeous! Lovely sandy beach, warm water (well warm enough to swim), clean facility for outdoor shower, gorgeous view, absolutely perfect. Cost $10 for day pass but well worth it.

What this beach is a white sand beach around 6 km of unspoiled sand, no bars no restaurants no para sailing tours, no crowds no beach volley ball or drunken parties some days you would have the whole beach to your self it is just a great place to hike, look for shells and slow down and smell the salt air.

The parking lot and field to walk across to get to the beach smelled like cow manure. The change rooms were dilapidated. The beach itself is mediocre. The water was cold but swimmable.

It may seem like "just a beach," but Mrs. TwoInMaine just loves it here, and Mr. TIM loves Mrs. TIM. Shallow Bay Beach is shallow enough that the water is warm. You can wade, you can even go into the water - quite a long way out you're still able to stand. The beach makes a wonderful walk. It's a great place to have a picnic. It has dunes. It has a parallel-to-the-beach short hiking trail through the woods (we once came face to face with a moose on that trail). The beach pavilion has a bathroom, changing room, and picnic area to use if it starts to rain. You're only a couple of miles from the grocery store and eating places of Cow Head, and the Cow Head hiking trails, too.

I couldn't believe this beach, it was so lovely, with nice smooth sand and it stretched out before us. We were camping at Shallow Bay Beach campground in Gros Morne National Park, and this beach was just around the corner from our campsite. What a lovely spot to walk in the sunset! We walked it in the evening, I went for an early morning walk, we really enjoyed this beach. I did not swim, but kids would really enjoy it, I understand that it lives up to its name of being shallow. Do not miss this beach.

Very accessible with a wooden walk way to the beach. Only 4 other people using the beach that day. Great for a picnic. Places to sit and watch the waves come in.

Is the walkway to the beach wheelchair accessible or does it have stairs?
