Visited Shiga Kogen for 5 days in Feb 2016, and despite the season being relatively lean by local standards, it was still incredible by Australian standards. Crowds - very small except for Saturday Snow Quality - excellent, unlike the wet snow in Aus Locals - great people and very respectful on the moutain Accomm - very cheap for ski in... More

visited this park, as it was near our Onsen we were staying at while in the nagano area. Park is gorgeous and almost empty of people. We were here in late June and weather was ideal for hiking. Highly recommend a visit to this area of Japan

Good place to visit. Everything is easy to get to and wide variety of slopes. Food places a little lacking but you can still find them if you look around. Bus services convenient.

We tried skiing for the first time, it pays to have a very patient instructor. The beginner slopes are really forgiving to first timers and enjoyable at the same time. Powder snow guaranteed in the first quarter of the year.

This ski area is massive and amazingly beautiful. If you speak English there is at least one ski school in the area that is lovely (Shiga International Ski School). My husband and I stayed in Ichinose (a village inside of the larger Shiga Kigen area) for a weekend during our trip in Japan and found that we could have had... More

Good things about this ski area are: 1. Big, covering over 10 ski resorts with at least 3 having more than 10 courses each 2. Wide slopes good for beginners yet slanting enough for snowboarders 3. Big variety of slopes, even in the same routes the slopes may split in the mid-way into green/red and black 4. Snow is powdered... More

Having skied across the world would have to say this was a really good resort. No crowds, large with a variety of terrain. Some great Off Piste but need to be cautious as the resort does not allow. Only reason the resort did not get 5 stars for skiing is for that reason. A lot of the expert runs where... More

Shiga Kogen is the biggest ski resort in Japan and even Asia, for what it matters. It is located a mere 1 and half hours from Tokyo by Shinkansen, in the Nagano prefecture, at an altitude ranging from 1300 to 2300 meters. The landscape is pristine, rugged by deep valleys, streams of water, filled with onsens and densely forested. The... More

Large Ski area, plenty of ski in - ski out hotels. So much snow. the place could probably do with an update as it seems not much has been done since the 98 Winter Olympics, but if you are not after flash and glamour and just was a good skiing trip... couldn't think of a better place.
