There was a young friendly gal tending the ice cream shop at the Neil's Harbour Lighthouse the day we visited in late September. The ice cream is really quite good here. I also tried one of “Mom's” homemade oatcakes it was very good also. I am quite picky about the oatcakes I like. Some of the thick ones are just... More

You will want to eat at the adjacent Chowder House, then head over to the Lighthouse for dessert. I'm not a big fan of fudge, but this guy's Dark Chocolate Fudge with Sea Salt was excellent! We only regret we didn't purchase more to take with us. Scott Hatcher is the extremely friendly proprietor, and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit... More

DEFINITELY OPEN!!!! It's right at the base of the lighthouse in Neil's Harbour. My husband and I visited Cape Breton and did the Cabot Trail during September of 2016. We were pleasantly surprised that while most of the restaurants in the area and nearby towns were closed, this place was open. We stopped by to have some of the great... More

Probably too early in the season as it was quite cold out in mid-June during our visit. A very pretty area overall. Rough dirt road though. The lighthouse is tough to photograph with all the power lines. We did our best as you can see in the photos below of the Neil's Harbor area. Definitely eat lunch at the Chowder... More

We came to the harbour yesterday to get fresh lobster from the dock. Once we did we drove to the light house to eat our picnic lunch and possibility get a treat afterwards but there were no signs indicating this place ever sold ice cream or was ever a store at all. There are still some chairs and picnic tables... More

We made a detour and found yet another lighthouse. Oh no, not another lighthouse, but wait, it sells ice cream! The guy serving was great, as was the generous portion of ice cream. It's well worth the detour.

I agree that this is a great way to preserve the lighthouse - why not use it as an ice cream shop? The perfect location means you can sit and lick while looking out at the coastal scenery.

I made a stop here while on a family road trip in early September. Even though the weather was a little over cast we decided to stop in for some ice cream, I'm truly glad we did. The service was excellent, the owner was extremely friendly and took the time to chat with us, giving some advice on where we... More

The interior of this lighthouse contains a very small store. My husband and I had hard ice cream here on Sunday, September 6, 2015. Two scoops for $4.50, 25 cents extra for a small cardboard bowl instead of a cone. The scoops were small. Our total was $9.50, quite pricey for four small scoops of commercial ice cream. Next time... We really enjoyed the wonderful ice cream,we had the lemon ice cream which was perfectly sweet and sour with chunks of lemon candy, fantastic! The hoof prints was also delicious. It was lovely to sit and view the ocean and watch the waves crashing against the rocks, while enjoying our cones, spectacular sight.
