If this was a part of your "Furano Tour" package, here's what to expect: rude crowds, pretty flowers, nice smells, and more souvenir shops than you'd ever want. This place was a total tourist trap. There were 50 busses lined up around this garden that could not hold the number of tourists it allowed in. There's only a sliver of a walkway around a very beautiful garden which made it impossible to take good photos of the garden, due to the crowds. There's not too many places to sit unless you're buying their not so special ice cream or overpriced fake lavender souvenirs. The ice cream wasn't special no matter what they say, and the souvenirs albeit cute were overpriced for dried flowers. This place has some of the ruddiest, most pretentious tourists, and the poor kids were so bored. By the way wheel chair access isn't good. We saw some people struggling due to the rocky gravel pavement.

Went before the full bloom period. Most of the area are being prep. But there are some area with flower which for us is enjoyable enough for the trip down. Giftshops are nice even then with nice surrounding eatery with nice ambience. Nice to go during May but njcer to wait for mid June if possible.

Very beautiful with fields of flowers! The large flower fields were definitely great for pictures. Need to time your visit right to see lavender, but worth it. They have many small shops selling food, lavender oil, lavender and flower related items (my kid got a hand towel with lavender crochet on it). Parking can be challenging but overall a very pleasant experience for someone who don't care much about flowers ;)

This is an attraction with all aspects of a must-visit location: history, amazing scenery, good food and treasured souvenirs.
We visited Farm Tomita on 7 October 2019. We took a taxi which cost slightly below 700 yen, as there were no other means of public transport to the place. If you would walk from Nakafurano train station, it is probably a 25 minute walk. Take note that while there is a taxi stand at the entrance of the farm, no taxis were available when we left the place. Hence, do factor in time to walk back to the train station if you come by public transport.
By 7th October, there were no more lavenders around in the flower bed, but there were rows of other beautiful flowers including bluesalvia, moss, margold, begonia etc that would make for endless photos with colourful flowers as a backdrop.
We spent a little time at the small photo museum within the premises, which feature very professionally-looking taken photos of the Farm across all the four seasons of the year.
Consider having lunch or dessert at Farm Tomita. A must try is the Lavender soft serve ice cream. At the cafe near the entrance, we also tried the curry rice and potatoes with lavender butter; nice! There are also sliced Yubari melons on sale at the farm itself.
Take some time to tour the souvenir shop within the premise and pick up some nice souvenirs or gifts which bear the Farm Tomita label. All in, visiting this attraction can easily take up half a day.

Went the first day it opened on 21st of April.
Nothing was planted and there were no flowers, if so, why open?
Regardless, the gift shop had incredible view of their flower display and the green house was lovely. Restaurants was okay. The gifts were expensive but of exceptional quality, especially the LAVENDER essential oil (50ml) with a porous rock for scent.
Happy with the visit, but puzzled by the open date and status.

we were devastated when we missed the train and learnt that we won't be able to catch the twinkle bus which is supposed to bring us to a few places, including a 35min stopover at Farm Tomita.
however, the staff at the JR station suggested we take a train from Sapporo to Asahikawa, then take the norokko train to Furano station.
this route took a long time, we left Sapporo at 12pm, and reached at 3:45pm!
when we reached, a lot of tourists were on their way out.
the shops close at 5pm, so we hurriedly bought the yuubari melon slices, Furano melon and lavender soft cream and went to the sourvenir shops to look at the postcards, aromatherapy oils etc. you must try the melons and soft creams! wonderful ^ ^
the farm closes at 6pm, but we are allowed to roam freely around the open fields outside.
at this time, it's really quiet and peaceful. what a perfect timing. you can take photos without many other tourists photo-bombing.
there were a lot of empty seats after the Farm closes, we rested, enjoyed the views and slowly walked to the Naka-Furano station and went back around 7:15pm.
it's definitely a good timing to go, around 3pm+, when it's not so crowded, and not as hot as mid-noon!

If you love flowers especially lavender and tulips, this is the best place for you to indulge your senses! Plus the location is quite convenient if you are travelling on the Rail Pass. We were there in late May so we knew we would miss the Sakuras but we were told there are so many other flowers in bloom in Summer and the flower farms are huge. I thoroughly enjoyed myself here and thanks to a wonderful staff member at the Tourist Info centre in the JR station at Sapporo, I was given the advice i needed for the right place and time to visit the flowers in Hokkaido. So a good tip is to always drop by at the "I" centres in the JRstations for last minute advice before you finalise your plans. They are always very helpful although their English speaking skills are not that good especially in the smaller towns. We had the JR pass so we took the JR trains all the way to Nakafurano from Sapporo (had to change twice but it was not a problem at all ) and for the last leg on arrival at the N'furano stn, because it was too sunny, we called for a taxi from the phone booth outside and shared the taxi with 2 other foreigners who alighted from the same train. We left our luggage at the train statioin. You can actually walk all the way to the farm as we did that when we returned from the farm. It took us about 25 mins. The view of the mountains and the scenery we saw from the train was stunning. The weather was beautiful so we decided to spend more time at the farm. And the best part is there is no entrance fee. Had lunch first as there were a lot of variety to choose from. There were no big groups of tourists so i guess May is a better time if you do not fancy crowds. We followed the trail, took photos with the tulips, begonias, ice poppy etc and visited the lavender perfume shop where we were shown how they make the various kinds of lavender products. at the backyard. Hmm it was so fragrant everywhere i could not resist buying them as souveneirs for my family. Then we had lavender ice cream and did more shopping at the gift shop..lavender tea, candles, soap etc. the list is endles. Wow..the Japanese are really creative. We also enyoyed the leisurely walk back to the train station taking in the fresh air and sights of the small and quiet township. We spent about 3 hrs at the farm and about 2 hours on the train to get back to Sapporo. Some of the local trains in that outlying suburb of furano do not have air conditioning so do take this into account, if going in the hot summer. You can clarify this at the JR reservation counters when you reserve your seats if you are using your rail pass. There is an alternative route if you prefer the AC but the time taken to Sapporo might be longer.

Farm Tomita is one of the most popular to-go places for flowers. We visited this lovely farm on the 20th of May. As advertised on its website, the spring field was near full bloom. On top of this, the shibazakura and a couple of other flowers were blooming as well. One could easily spend 1-2 hours here even though only a couple of fields had flowers. Entrance and parking was free and the staff was friendly. Would probably come back here when more flower fields are in season

I went to Lavender Tomita Farm at the end of July 2017. During summer time, there is seasonal train operates from Furano to Tomita farm. I took subway from Sapporo station to Furano, Furano to lavender farm Tomita. It's all covered by JR pass. The seasonal train operates 4 times. Twice Furano-Tomita. Twice back from Tomita-Furano. The seasonal train isn't airconditioned. And some cars, should be reserved. But even if you don't reserve seat, and there is no more vacant seat, you still can stand up. Furano to Tomita isn't far.
Summer is really hot. In the farm it's a must to try lavender ice cream, available in cup & cone. It' soft and smells like happiness. It's just made my day in the summer heat.
Lavender ice cream shop situated inside the lavender farm. There are more shops before the farm, but they sell other things, melon ice cream, steamed sweet corn, etc. Each shop sells different product. I think if you have enough budget, you should try the farm products too. I tried steamed sweet corn. It's sweet but savoury too at the same time. Big size and soft. It made me happy too.
Heavy rain can happen during summer too. So sometimes, shinkansen from Tokyo to Sapporo is canceled, but JR provides alternative such as bus or local train without extra charge. Better take 1st shinkansen from Tokyo or plane, so you won't arrive late in Sapporo.
Ohya during summer, there is a looooot of tourist from Republic of China & South Korea. So better come early, to avoid heat & crowd.
There is a souvenir shop too where they sell lavender, its processed product and, postcard. They provide mail service too (for postcards).

Hi. chanced upon this thread. if im travelling to Farm Tomita in Hokkaido Furano, on week of 4th Oct to 7th Oct, will there be a big risk that the flowers all disintegrate already and will be facing barren fields?
is it still a good time to visit furano for the screnery of flowers?

Dear Travelers. Is it a good time to visit Furano in November?
Where else is good to go during that time in Hokkaido?
Written August 16, 2019
May not be a good time to visit Furano in November with the weather getting cold and all flowers are gone. Skiing in the high lands may be available if snows come early in late November.

Hi, I plan to go to Hokkaido in mid-Aug. Are there still lavender and sunflower to see ? Does the field still have flower blossom? Thanks
Written July 30, 2019
I still have flowers blossom but not much. I think the best month for see lavender blooming is first to mid July.

Dear travelers, I'm planning to go for a day trip to Furano specially to Tomita farm. As I don't have much money I've decided to take the Chuo bus from Sapporo to Furano. Can someone help me, how can I go then to Tomita? Does the bus stop near JR line?
The Google and the official website show different timetable of this buses, who should I believe?
I'll be very thankful if someone could help me.
Written June 30, 2019
It might be easier to take a tourist bus from Sapporo. They will take you to the farm and back, and you don't have to worry about anything. There's a counter in the bus terminal next to JR Sapporo station that sells tickets.

Yes there is quite a bit to see in Furano and in Farm Tomita. That is why it is on the recommended places list for Furano. Just do a simple google search and you will find loads of information.

We plan to go there this Sept. Is it a good time to visit and will there be any flowers left?
Written June 7, 2019
Definitely ( but not lavender or sunflower) there are many other flowers still available for viewing. And definitely less crowded compare to July & August.
Written June 9, 2019
Hi, we will be there on 24/5/19, May I know what types of flowers can be see?
Written April 7, 2019
Hi..you should sheck their website to see what flowers will be blooming during that time. They even have live video showing the farm’s situation so you can get better updates.
