With a guide from Rishiri Hana Guide Club picking me for half day trip to Otatomarinuma Pond (or marsh) not sure which is correct. "Otato" in Ainu language means sand, "marinuma" means fishing port (Ainu are indigenous people of Japan). Even if it's late the guide expertly pointed out different endemic flowers, plants, trees of the area (in Japanese). The... More

The swamp lake is on the near the port. Its a man made swamp. Build in 1917. They combined a few swamps. The scenery is beautiful. You can walk around it. You can see the reflection of the mountain in the water. You can find it just a few minutes from the cycle path or go there by car (or... More
